    onX Maps

I have only been using their service for about 2 years now. The only issue I have had is managing the settings for the layers. Tons of options that were a bit daunting to navigate for someone like me. In the end, I FREAKIN' LOVE THIS SERVICE!! I use it on my iPhone and my only complaint has...

    Archery Colorado Unit

I am glad to hear you changed your mind. 44 is almost exclusively timbered tops in the high country. Very limited spot and stock opportunities. You can be successful on that unit, but spot and stalk would be tough. I have never hunted 47, so I cant offer much advice. Good Luck

    Colorado Unit 44 Fourth Season

I may be worth paying the $100 for Huntin Fool. They will send you a list of hunters who have had that tag in the past. (Many with Outfitters) Since it takes a bigillion points to draw that tag, none of the hunters will ever hunt that unit again. This makes it very likely that they will...

    Colorado 43 Archery

Make sure you plan your hunt around the muzzleloader deer and elk seasons. They will overlap with your archery deer hunt. You will get a lot of company if you don't watch the dates. Unit 43 is a big unit with great alpine basins for mulies. Tough hunting but 170+ bucks can be found. Also...

    Expensive mistake

Please check this with the fish and game, but I believe you have two choices. I have turned tags back in the past and this is my recollection. 1. If you turn the tag back in and ask for a refund, you will get your refund, keep your points but NOT get a preference point for this year. (So long...

    Utah Mule Deer Committee

My questions is whether we are managing for opportunity or for success? If we are managing for success, we need fewer tags given on the individual units. If we are managing for opportunity we need a way for hunters to be less successful so we can offer more tags. This usually equates to rough...

    Fixed blade VS EXP/Mech blade

Go with what works for you. Follow the basic common sense we all know but forget when we are going through all the "fun" gadgets that come out each year. If you are getting good flight with Fixed, don't change. If Mechanicals help you tame erratic flight, use expandable's and don't worry. If...

    032 Antelope Rifle

I drew this tag for Archery this year. I will get out for a couple scouting trips and put in 7-10 days of hunting. PM me your contact info. I will be happy to share what I find while scouting and hunting. Personally, I could use some advice on techniques during the archery season on this...

Sure Loc or Black Gold Ascent?

I have a SureLoc on my back up bow and a Black gold ascent on my new bow. Both are great sights. Although I have never had problems in the field, I am constantly worrying about the SureLoc. I am not kind to my equipment at all. Strapping it to my pack, dragging it through the brush, falling...

    BOW HUNTING EQUIPMENT QUESTION.

I used to carry a lot of extra gear. Now I keep my old bow tuned and it the truck. If I have so much as a string loop break, I switch to the backup. For me, having 100% confidence when I pull back is the only way I can keep from letting an arrow fly as soon as my pin is "close enough". (Bad...

    Any Elite shooters?

I have owned a Z28 and Pulse. Both are great bows. They have a hoyt-like grip and are extremely smooth drawing. Since they do not have a split yoke, dealing with cam lean can be a problem, but I never experienced it. Great lower cost alternative to Hoyt, Mathews, or high end Bowtech.

    Wasatch Front Extended Areas

SW, You are correct. There are a lot of private parcels scattered throughout the front. If you want to hunt the front, you had better do your homework.

    Wasatch Front Extended Areas

Scott, I am surprised that you of all people got some of this wrong. You OWN the front. Let me share what I have learned over the years with my continued research. Alta: Totally off limits. The city of Alta extended their boundary to encompass the entire resort and much of the land to the...

Shot a forkhorn, couldn't stop myself

This buck was on my hitlist from the first time I saw him in the spring. He was not the buck I was after, but when he presented a shot I did not hesitate for a second. Spot and stalk Northern Utah.

    CO Archery Mule deer

44 can be a great hunt, but this unit has very little sub-alpine terrain. (i.e. the tops are all timbered with very limited glassing opportunities) With that being said, I did see a few 170 class bucks when I archery hunted this unit 3 yrs ago (right after the 60+% winter kill)

    UAC--3 strikes, You're out!

UAC is more a "Bro" shop than a "Pro" shop. Like most poeple, I like Gerald, I respect his opinion and skill, but I have stopped using his shop. There is an "us against them" culture in his shop. He cators to the hard core, young, elite bowhunter. Hey G, Don't forget the average hunter can't...

    wackem or montech G5

Can't go wrong with either one. There are two predominate fixed blade designs floating around these days. The Montec/hellrazor/VPA terminator, and the wac'em/striker/T1 designs. Guys on this site favor the Wack'em and VPA's. You will do fine with any one in either category. Happy hunting!

    What attracts you??

In a word, distance. I don't shoot at animals at long distance, but I LOVE to practice long distance. Not just long distance shots, but distance between targets. When the terrain allows, long distance BETWEEN targets allows for a more realistic experience. While I am on the topic or realistic...

What trail camera do you like the best?

The best resource I have found is at. . . . http://www.chasingame.com/ They do anual reviews of all the major camera's. They are fairly scientific and appear to be very objective. They even exposed the rather awful programing glitch in the first generation Bushnell's. Good Luck.

    Colorado what week?

RE: Colorado what week? The first week of September is not bad. The Muzzloader hunters don't start until the 2nd week, and most of the archery deer/elk hunter are gone after Labor day. Good Pre-rut action. I have only hunted high country back pack, so I don't have a good feel for the...

    Which Tripod do you use?

I use the high country. I would highly suggest adding a smooth panning head. The compact "ball" head included with the tripod is not user friendly enough for the long hours I spend behind glass. The extra weight is worth it. IMO

    Quickfletch- (Quickspins,or Twister, or Blazers?)

I did a broadhead test with all three a couple years back. I fletched all the arrows with an aggressive helical and shot three arrow groups with each fletching. All three performed very well. The Quickspin produced a slightly tighter group, but the downrange noise was too loud for me. Since...

    Unit 43 Early Deer

May have been bad timing, but we hunted 3 separate areas before we found relative solitude. If we could have found better quality animals, the opportunities were there. Lots of archery elk hunters in the mix. With a couple more years of recovery, this could be a tough draw and a great hunt.
