Imagine the thought of needing to close the distance. If we can get rid of rangefinders we can then easily put turrets and reticle scopes on the ban list. This needs to happen to put the hunt back in hunting.Just what we need, guys guessing it is 950 yards
Worked for years before technology came into play. What's wrong DB you afraid to have to hunt a little? Put the hunt back in hunting. Get rid of rangefinders, turrets, and reticles. No downside.Just what we need! More advocates wanting to restrict freedoms and rights even more! Great idea! ?
you think winging shots and wounding animals is bad now, pull out the range finder element and you’ll have all kinds of animals leaving blood trails on the mountain that’ll never be recovered
Liberalism is starting to make its way into the hunting population ? “rangefinders are racist...” CANCELED!If it truly is time to put the hunt back in hunting let's get these rangefinders banned!
Riiight. Stick to turkeys.Just what we need! More advocates wanting to restrict freedoms and rights even more! Great idea! ?

DB is a turkey slaying fool, I bet he doesn’t use a rangefinderWorked for years before technology came into play. What's wrong DB you afraid to have to hunt a little? Put the hunt back in hunting. Get rid of rangefinders, turrets, and reticles. No downside.
turrets gone fixed scope? If it truly is time to put the hunt back in hunting let's get these rangefinders banned!
All scopes have turrets. So it would have to be scopes gone.turrets gone fixed scope?
Fixed scope sure, but the smart/ Bluetooth rangefinders, reticles and turrets need to go and will go.turrets gone fixed scope?
Haha I can't argue any of those points. Very nice summary of what it has become. You know that salty taste in your mouth before you throw up? That’s utah
That nasty stuff you find in drain pipes when your working on your plumbing? That’s Utah
That guy that uses the word running when talking about gear? That’s Utah
The guy who lifts his truck up, puts a winch on it, never leaves the road, has 100 stickers in the back window, that’s Utah
the hunters who brag about long range but wounds a bunch of animals? That’s Utah!
Don't forget your truck! Should walk to your unit! Woohoo!Right on. The hell with technology. Might as well ban binoculars and rifle scopes, too. Along with the GPS. And atv's.
How do you get rid of turrets?Fixed scope sure, but the smart/ Bluetooth rangefinders, reticles and turrets need to go and will go.
Chop it off with a knife? How do you get rid of turrets?
You would have to considering all scopes have them ?? And they are all capable of being dialed to a shoot to distance. And any sort of Mil/MOA reticle is capable of obtaining a range.Chop it off with a knife?
And you’re the guy crying about not seeing deer next to the road? And our herd numbers dropping is at fault of technology? Why are you all whining? You are the same guys whining about putting the hunt back in hunting. So put your money where your mouth is. Let's get rid of the rangefinders. That's all, simple, keep everything else. Just give up your rangefinder. You scared???
I take it you're a rifle hunter? What caliber do you use? 270?Why are you all whining? You are the same guys whining about putting the hunt back in hunting. So put your money where your mouth is. Let's get rid of the rangefinders. That's all, simple, keep everything else. Just give up your rangefinder. You scared???
No that's not me. Sure doesn't help the "heard" when you are shooting at them from different zip codes. Don't be silly, you just want to send it when you see them from the road. Let's get rid of them, can't hurt. And you’re the guy crying about not seeing deer next to the road? And our heard numbers dropping is at fault of technology?
It's actually a statement I made to start the post. Rangefinders need to go. Put the hunt back in hunting. Why so much push back to give up your rangefinder?Has nothing to do with electronics. His question is why shoot at an animal at 100yds when you should be closing the distance to 50yds. That is his question.
My question back to him is this: Are you a rifle hunter? Are you a compound bow hunter?
You know where this is going next, right?
I don’t think he’s anything but a forum troll. Just started his account. Probably a previously banned member just trying to start sh!tI take it you're a rifle hunter? What caliber do you use? 270?
If you were smart you would get onboard with it. How many bucks would make it through the season in G without your rangefinder?Has nothing to do with electronics. His question is why shoot at an animal at 100yds when you should be closing the distance to 50yds. That is his question.

Piss off. troll lives matter. #TLMI don’t think he’s anything but a forum troll. Just started his account. Probably a previously banned member just trying to start sh!t
The reason why harvest rates are lower with bows is because you don’t have t report wounded animals that died a mile away. You want more animals on the mountain, ban archery hunters!I've said it before and I'll say it again....less rifle tags and more archery and muzzy tags. All the tech ban proposals will be a nightmare to enforce if put into place.
If it truly is time to put the hunt back in hunting let's get these rangefinders banned!
Sooooo will you give up your rangefinder when the law states you have to? That's all this is about, don't complicate it.Guys wanting to ban tech are the first ones in line for a tag to hunt with a rifle... LOL In that case, why don't you just ban anything you didn't make by hand? You have to grow the tree first, harvest the wood. Hopefully you find a dead deer or elk to harvest the sinew. Then kill a duck with a rock so you have feathers for the fletchings. Lastly, you'll have to sharpen your flint skills and make yourself a broadhead. Then, and only then, will you be considered a true hunter who takes no advantages over game animals. But also, if you take a shot over 5 yards you'll have to turn yourself into fish and game for a "long range" violation.
I've now solved all of the world's hunting problems.
No, because the law won’t say that. Here’s an example: how long have guys been pushing to get the early LE rifle elk hunt out of the rut? And how successful have they been at that?Sooooo will you give up your rangefinder when the law states you have to? That's all this is about, don't complicate it.
Don't be so sure. Baiting got axed in a quick manner. This technology bill is already in the works. No, because the law won’t say that. Here’s an example: how long have guys been pushing to get the early LE rifle elk hunt out of the rut? And how successful have they been at that?
state isn’t looking to limit opportunity. They might redefine what they deem as a muzzleloader or archery equipment. But range finders, binos, spotters, that kinda thing isn’t going to go anywhere. Don’t use one if you don’t want to. It’s that simple
I support limiting technology. First, rangefinders. Second, Elkster's scope on his muzzleloader!
Hawkeye
I'm slow- is there actually a movement/bill in some state (Utah?) to ban range finders? I can't find anything on the internet about it...
LOL- center of the universe, got it, very cool....It All Starts Right Here on MM!
Where were you on the baiting trail cam issue??? We lost that one or will shortly lose trail cams. A rangefinder is just a tool, why you all up in arms? I'm excited to see them go. Once they go, it won't matter what scope you have, a little bit of hunting will be involved. That won't be so bad will it???You've got to be smoking crack or stirring the **** pot, one or the other! Why any reasonable person, let alone a hunter, would want to ban something that makes clean kills possible is beyond me. THIS, in and of itself is why we will lose the war on our right to keep and bear arms. I don't give a rats arse if you hunt with a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range or an atlatl, I WILL support your right to do it. You should do the same.
Nope. Take your fascist rhetoric somewhere else.Sooooo will you give up your rangefinder when the law states you have to? That's all this is about, don't complicate it.
Baiting was illegal then it wasn’t illegal now it is again. Things come and go. Much like the ugly women in your life.Don't be so sure. Baiting got axed in a quick manner. This technology bill is already in the works.
Wohhhh there Travis. Why are you so butthurt? Might have to put some boots on the ground to get closer? You can still hunt with your .06 just can't use your rangefinder. Better start practicing with your fixed power scope, I know that is scary, but I think you'll survive??? This is like telling a fat little video gamer you are taking his Xbox, he might have to get some exercise. Be good for everyone involved won't it?Baiting was illegal then it wasn’t illegal now it is again. Things come and go. Much like the ugly women in your life.
Everyone knows that before laser rangefinders, no hunter ever fired a bullet farther than he should have. Every hunter snuck in to 100 yards and killed with a single, well placed shot.
Society was better off before tech increased longevity of life. Too many people sucking up valuable resources where they don't contribute to the output anymore.
The problems we face today are too many people pretending it is their obligation to decide what others should and shouldn't have/use/own...
Don't overthink it. The majority here wanted baiting banned but now the tables have turned you play the infringement of rights card....c'mon it's just your rangefinder. Can't you let it go??? Let's put the hunt back into hunting.Society was better off before tech increased longevity of life. Too many people sucking up valuable resources where they don't contribute to the output anymore.

I never thought I’d see the day when a guy would be advocating for hunters to lose a tool that certainly would greatly help them effectively, efficiently and quickly achieve the ultimate goal, a 1 shot, quick kill…. But here we are!
this is more and more like California every day.
I never thought the day would come that you have to rely on a smart rangefinder to take all the guesswork out of your shot, you've lost all sense of woodsmanship skills to get close and make a clean kill. INCREDIBLE that fact is so hard for most to see.
My wife thinks I have it. She should hear me when she isn’t around. How do you get rid of turrets?
A little late for that. The rangefinder ban is moving quicker than the bait ban did. Once the ball starts rolling there is no turning back. Should have thought about that before the bait whiners started their bitching. How about we ban all the bitching and moaning!! I enjoy my tree camera’s, apples and 1,000 yard muzzleloader.
I’LL HUNT MY WAY, YOU HUNT YOURS!!
MAGA!!!!
No you won't.How about we ban all the bitching and moaning!! I enjoy my tree camera’s, apples and 1,000 yard muzzleloader.
I’LL HUNT MY WAY, YOU HUNT YOURS!!
MAGA!!!!
Easy fix. All large rifle calibers have a 300 yd zero and all magnums a 400. Problem solved.Don't overthink it. The majority here wanted baiting banned but now the tables have turned you play the infringement of rights card....c'mon it's just your rangefinder. Can't you let it go??? You’re a hypocrite if you hunt with a rifle. I archery hunt. I’m a real hunter. You rifle guys are cheating. How about I make you get out and actually hunt with the old stick and sting. Lazy SOB.Wohhhh there Travis. Why are you so butthurt? Might have to put some boots on the ground to get closer? You can still hunt with your .06 just can't use your rangefinder. Quit slobbering, take a breath, and use your words. Then put down the rangefinder and walk away......it will be ok. Shoot your bow enough that you know the yardage, don't rely on the technology you might find out you like it more. You’re a hypocrite if you hunt with a rifle. I archery hunt. I’m a real hunter. You rifle guys are cheating. How about I make you get out and actually hunt with the old stick and sting. Lazy SOB.
I say get rid of side besides, just because!!!!
Haha eat my shorts bucky. My mother in law doesn't use a rangefinder, but she does bait bears and looks like Brucelin Jenner.I don’t think I’ve heard a good argument here, for or against rangefinders. If you don’t agree with Bigstiffy, At least present a good argument. If you can’t do that give him a personal shot... tell him all his kids look like his mother in law, even the boys... JK I don’t even know if he has kids...
I’ll give up my rangefinder if we also have to go single pin on bow sight. Makes as much sense.
“YUP!
If I'm Giving My 300.00 SmokePole Scope Up!
StickFlippers go back to Single Pin!
Rifles Get a Cut as Well!”
Sounds good Elkster. Let’s do it!
Hawkeye
Rifles Get a Cut as Well!
This is like Biden saying “why does anyone need an AR-15?” It’s not about the range finder. This isn't a bowhunting thread it's about giving up your rangefinders. What's the big deal? Are you all so dependent on your rangefinder you are afraid to give it up? Better get a plan in place to figure out how to hunt without one. Regardless if you bowhunt, muzzy, or rifle. It seems that banning rangefinders would be like giving a kidney. I'm excited for it. It's easy to enforce and will make a difference in getting back to hunting. Why you all so worried???
This is spot on!The problems we face today are too many people pretending it is their obligation to decide what others should and shouldn't have/use/own..
Ohhhh so this is somehow different than the baiting ban?......gotcha! When it impacts you it's different. It's starting to make sense now. It doesn't matter either way the balls already rolling. This is like Biden saying “why does anyone need an AR-15?” It’s not about the range finder.
I don’t see how they’d enforce this. They gonna empty your pack looking for a rangefinder whenever they stop anyone?
Really? Where did hunters decide they weren't hunters, but we're killers?
^^you answered your own question! Look at ya go! I hear next week they might start letting you use a fork all by yourself10 ft fences, gps ear tags, guided bullets, drones, satellite mapping are "just tools" as well
It’s so true. It’s very obvious who hasn’t witnessed what happens on a GSL marsh opening day hahaha and they think this will be any different?None of you must be duck hunters, You would know we dont use range finders and you can watch 90% of the hunters shooting at birds that are 4 times out of range and they dont learn not to, so I think if you want to get rid of range finders you may as well get rid of any ethics that many hunter may still have. There are many technologies that are going to be bad for us in some way, I just dont think a range finder is one of them.
If they were outlawed, would you have one in your pack?I don’t see how they’d enforce this. They gonna empty your pack looking for a rangefinder whenever they stop anyone?
