Your guess on returned elk/deer combo

I didn't apply for Montana this year because I thought I was drawing another limited tag and then didn't so I put myself on the returned tag list for elk/deer combo. I thought the random assigned numbers weren't until mid July but I just check and it says I'm #678 out of like 1350 or so. Any guess if this is possible for getting a tag before archery season? if not before rifle season? I know it changes just thought I get your best guess. Any rough guess is appreciated.

couple years ago I talked to a guy that was like #231 and his wife was like 240 something and she never got a tag.

Yes I should have ended my post with is it even likely at all to get the tag with that number. Appreciate the feedback!

I have big game combo alternate list #1876 out of #2706. Looks like no chance for a MT tag for me.

Last year I was #1336 and got as close as #516 the last week of November. I am sure many people turned down tags the later you get into the hunting season and they offer it to the next person on the list. I moved up 266 positions by 1 Sept.

Interesting. Well maybe I have a shot, mine is the deer&elk combo I guess the deer is separate and elk is separate and the combo deer&elk is a separate list from what I understand. I'll just cross my figures. Thanks for the info.

No. You can only sign up for one of the three lists.

My understanding is you can only be on one of the three list. I chose Deer and elk combo because I wanted to hunt it archery for elk and then go back rifle for deer. If you could have gotten on each list I would have.

Well good to know seeing I did not try to get on all the lists. This is the first year in maybe 20 that I do not have a combo tag. I did get on the deer only list and sit at 1587 out of over 2500, well I did not need a tag this year but would have taken one. I was also wondering if you lose general points when getting an alternate tag.

No you do not loose your points when getting an alternative tag. I made sure of this when I got myself on the list.. Good luck with any hunts you have this year.
