Western Side of Yellowstone OTC Unit… Any good?

I'm thinking of chasing elk near Packard Lake just South of the Dushane River. Anybody had luck finding bulls there? What about the crowds in mid-September?

There's elk in there, they will be few and far between. Likely will go days in between elk interactions. Crowds wont be an issue.

Thanks fullthrottle. Any suggestions for locating them? Mid-September should calling work? Biggest concern I have is lots of cover and water. Not sure about food or rutting grounds there.

It’s big country, there's just not a lot of elk in there. The rut is rarely intense in that country. Maybe a bugle here and there. Small groups of elk, not much competition between bulls.
Cover lots of ground, find fresh sign and hunt it.
