Unit 20 private land buck tag

I have access to 160 acres near Ward. The Season ends November 30. When would I have the best chance at a rutting mule deer? I cannot go this weekend. I normally hunt deer during the archery season. I have never hunted them after that, so I am not sure what to expect.

Does the property consistently hold deer year round? Does it hold does?

Yes, mostly does. I hope to see some bucks cruising for does.

You best chances will be Nov 10-30 I would say probably 15-25 being the best ten days all things equal. It’s easy just sit on the does and bucks will show up, often different bucks as the season drags on with the bigger bucks moving in to herd them up from the younger ones, just like the elk rut but no bugling

On the Front Range, I tend to see the rut peak around 11/19.

Anytime from now through the end of the month with the middle to end being best. Honestly, if you can somehow get up there as soon as the snow breaks, I would! Good luck and send pics.

I was in 22 second season and things were definitely heating up. Does in ever larger groups. More mature bucks exhibiting daytime pre rut (scraping and rubbing and in close proximity to doe herds) behaviors.

I felt like with continued weather and a week or so of time it would be on.

We looked at well over 100 bucks with 30 in one day being the high. No big antlered bucks with the biggest being a 25 or 26 inch heavy 4 point that looked like a 4-1/2 year old being the biggest antlers. My daughter shot her first muley, a 23-1/2" 4x4. I shot a mature 4x4. I wanted a big buck or a mature buck with low genetic potential for big antlers. Couldn't find a big one.

CPW estimated 6-1/2 to 7-1/2 years old on my buck based on the teeth.

Son didn't fill his over the counter bull tag.

Super fun hunt. Especially for my kids who have never seen that many bucks in a week.

He was. Full of fat inside and out. His stomach was empty. Pretty sure he had something other than food on his mind for the first time this year.
