LAST EDITED ON Feb-13-11 AT 02:37PM (MST)[p]last year i asked my buddy if he wanted to try barbary sheep hunting. he said sure so we put in and dres the units surrounding 30. for the last year we have done some research, talking, and scouting. and yesterday it paid off. but OMG that was the toughest hunt either of us have ever done. over the last two days we put approx 25 miles on our feet.
We were stopped to eat lunch and glass some canyons. after about 45 minutes we decided to move on down the ridge to another spot. I got up and put my pack on. derek did the same and i happened to turn around and look back up the draw and saw a group of 3 sheep coming right towards us. not knowing how to judge them i figured they were close to 20"(way off) so i said shoot um!! and we shot and killed two. then i looked at my gps which said 5 miles to the truck. HOLY CRAP that was quite a work out...especially with a twisted anke 2 miles from the truck. but we made it back to the truck and went immediatly to the Wester Bar in cloudcroft for a burger and beer to celebrate. my sheep was 14" and dereks was 13.5". dinks but it was a fun hunt and we can only improve on them.
