I saw that the Sportsman's Warehouse in Cruces is closing down. I thought for sure that one would stay open. Seems like the only game in town for southern NM.

Sad deal for us Southerners Hope something else comes along BIG 5 just typcially doesn't cut it. Pretty sad when Wal-Mart becomes a valid choice on where to buy sporting goods locally.

Yep, I stopped today on the way home from work. The parking lot was packed. They have 10% off of just about everything. Ammo and powder shelves were about bare. They are the last of the group to close. They hope to be able to reopen or not close.

Here in TX as well.

Just talked to UTRoy about it.
He used to work there part time.

Hard times. I HATE it....

Hope it turns soon...

If Sportsman's closes it is their own dumb fault. It stinks for those of us who want to get quality gear at a good price, but SW is the WORST. Last fall, my buddy and I stopped in every week for 3 months trying to buy reloading supplies....bare shelves. I was looking for archery supplies recently (target for my boys)....bare shelves. Christmas time, wanted some binoculars for my dad....out of stock. Part of staying in business is having merchandise. These guys never seem to have what I need. Aren't we in the computer age, barcode scanners, the internet? I refuse to shop there unless I have to. I save up and buy things when I go to Phoenix (Cabelas) or just order online. Poor business model = dead business.

A friend manages a SW here. He was complaining a cpl weeks ago he better start getting stocked. They have to stock the warehouse then ship out.
Too many stores was probably their downfall.

It is too bad you guys don't have viable alternatives--maybe some of you should get together and open something to replace it. The beauty of capitalism!

I have a couple of friends who are department managers at the Sportsman's here and they tell me it had nothing to do with the economy--sales are up in a lot of departments. The owner was a terrible businessman and this has been coming for well over a year. They haven't been able to get restocked on anything, even fishing, because his system of corporate inventory was such a disaster.

In the last 3 weeks I've been to the Reno Scheels, Sportman's and Cabelas. Economy is not hurting none of them!!! Reloading shelves are bare. When I asked about powder and the guy brought me 3 lbs, 4-5 other guys crowded him, it was crazy. Only primers were pistol and shotgun.

There were 30 guys in the gun area of Scheels. Not just lookin but asking mega questions, waitin for help, buyers.

Home furnishings were kinda slow. :)

It is my understanding that the Sportsmans Warehouse chain has been purchsed by a Canadian firm. They are not going out of business. Inventories are down and will remain that way until the new owner takes over. The closing date has been pushed back a couple of times. I wa told they are now looking at mid April. My info came fron Sportmans in store management. I hope they know what is really going on.
