How many points did it take?My cousin drew the Pine Valley General season tag Oct 17-29th. Neither of us have hunted or scouted this area but will be out scouting many times before the opener. Does anybody have any suggestions where we might start? Thank you.
This is great advice the only thing not mentioned is exact location of a big buck but if you follow this advice your are bound to see bucks. The tricky part about scouting for the rifle on a unit like the Pine Valley is it is very much a migration unit.
So you’re scouting either areas you won’t likely be hunting, or scouting areas that are yet to have good numbers of deer.
I’m NOT the most knowledgeable person on Pine Valley, but have been down there a time or two, and my best advice is to research migration routes, go learn the lay of the land in the migration areas, and then spend time ahead of the season just looking for deer to sample what is likely available for you.
Deer will absolutely stay high, but I am guessing the majority will be well on their way to the rutting areas and winter grounds by the third week in October.

Thank you!I would start by downloading a map and picking a few high spots and look in the trees.
