Had a good buddy slice his arm open with his Havalon while skinning a deer today. I’ve got myself a few times but luckily only needed to super glue my thumb up once.

I read an article a few years back of a hunter in Utah who somehow got himself in the chest while gutting an animal and passed away on the mountain. My dad had a friend years ago get an eye poked on a bucks horn while dragging him out. Be safe out there.

Had that happen with a black bear in Colorado a 7 years ago. Ran the blade up my finger across a knuckle. I still don't have any feeling along the side of that finger. Most of all I was worried about getting trichinosis. Havalon's are crazy dangerous knives.

Done it to my fingers and knuckle a few times with the havalon. Almost always nearing the end of carving up the animal. Get tired and lose focus, I guess. Nowadays, I wear cut resistant gloves under nitrile, and carry tourniquets and quickclot. Oh…and, yes, superglue, too.

I did this in 1998 on a moose hunt… Went to the ER to get stitched up… He didn’t like hunters and especially moose hunters.. He said I’m not going to numb you up because you didn’t numb the moose up….

Glad I’m not the only idiot to cut his tendon in half with an havolon about 6 weeks ago and had to be put to sleep to reattach it. Now I have limited move ability on my right index finger. Pretty damn embarrassing.
