oryx bullets

Anybody have a real preference for a bullet type for oryx. I am either going to use my 7mm (favorite) or my 300 win mag. I normally shoot accubond in both but not sure if i should go back to the partitions or barnes or something else. Any opinions from ones who have been involed in shooting oryx?

My wife used the Accubonds out of a .270 on her Oryx last year, held up good and did the job. Not all shot were perfectly placed, but still put it down pretty quick. Don't have first hand knowledge of any others.

I am going this year on the Stallion range
I plan on using my 7mm ultra mag. (ultra bonded core lockt, 140 grain) That should do the trick. What do you think trapking?

I used a 7MM Magnum with Federal Premium Vital-Shok 165 grain bullets on the Oryx I took this year. It did the job with 3 shots right through the boiler room. First shot at 375 yards and the last 2 at 70 yards.

Barnes Triple shock or TSX have been giving great results, however, it's all about placement with these guys. A 14 yr girl took a large bull with a .270 150 gr Hornady. She took one shot at 275 yards and it dropped where it stood. You need to have a 2-3 inch grouping at 200 yards with sticks (35-65 inches) and you need to be able to hit the intersection of black racing strip that goes horizontal along the bottom of the body and the front leg.

Partitions, Accubond & Barnes are all good bullets. I would be more concerned with which one shoots the best out of your gun. Having confidence in your weapon/ammo and proper shot placement is the key. My $.02.--Kevin

Oryx are at least as tough as elk, so start with a bullet that is constructed to perform for elk and bigger-sized game. After than, select whichever bullet your particular gun groups the most consistently.

Partitions perform good on elk, and is all I will shoot in my rifle, because the group well.

BUT...I have found, its hard to find a rifle that will shoot flatback bullets and boattails...usually if a rifle likes one, it hates the other, or wont shoot near the group.

All metioned above are great, just find the one Your rifle likes!

To many get caught up in the ford verses chevy deal, use the best grouper...performance comes after accuracy...

NMHUNTER1 your load is good, it's all about shot placement like oryxrus said. We tell our hunters too shoot a little higher than the racing stripe, because it takes out the spine and drops them where they stood. Sometimes a follow up shot is needed but at least they are not gonna run off.

I wouldn't be scared of shooting an oryx with an Accubond...

if your taking out the spin, it wouldn't be a little higher it would be way higher then the racing strip.

I have a custom rifle with a 2 ounze trigger, a six inch group at 600 yrds is average for anyone! the light trigger takes error out of most peoples form...

Squeeze the trigger is 75% of shooting...the other 25% is form...barely touch the front of the gun...let it recoil at will..and the back, let it float loose on the shoulder, never bind or squeeze!

several thousand rounds taught me to shoot....not a book or movie...

I used 160 grain Sierra Game King SBT in my 7mm Rem Mag. 424 yards-38 1/2" cow dropped in her tracks.

This rifle, bullet, load combination is very accurate and deadly.
