SPAZ,
First of all, Perhaps it's just the way I was raised, but I classified you as a tool because you trolled on to my thread out of the blue and crapped on me for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I have been on numerous hunting forums, some as long as 23 years (Bowsite 1995), yet somehow during all that time I have never once done that to anyone for any reason. Why??? What's the motivation??? Now retaliating to trolls is another matter. The only excuse I can surmise is your parents did a real crappy job raising you? Just wondering what the thought process is for someone like you. Someone piss in your cornflakes?
As to my AZ archery elk hunt last year, being the big game pro that you are, you should know that you have to be willing to pass on a lot if you are after a trophy. My hunt was the 4th best elk hunt I was ever on. Very good. I was chasing a 400" and a 390" from the opener. I got within 30 & 50 yards of each one day, but obstructed. That's hunting. I also passed on 30 bulls from 320" to 350". I've taken lots of 320-350 bulls, including a 340" from that same unit in 2004. My 2017 standards were not high. They were VERY high. But I love elk meat too. So I decided from the start I would take a meat bull on the last day of the hunt, which I did. I did the same thing for a moose hunt in 2012, except heard willows clicking and gambled to pass on the med bull in my sights the last day there. Clicked the safety off. 10 Minutes later I ended up taking the 5th biggest bull in the state of NH that year. And the only one who took one over 50" without the use of an outfitter. Solo DIY. Don't got 12 member posse's. It's called hunting, not executing. Sometimes you win, sometimes not. Still a great trip and was able to successfully guide a senior AZ resident on her first elk hunt afterwards.
As to the WY lope hunt, if you took the time to read, you already 108 is not a trophy unit. It was just a throw away bonus on my return drive home, after the other 99 hunters with tags had long picked off all the shooters. I was hunter #100, setting first step on it 6 weeks into the season! Also, 90% of the lope were planted on private by then. If you live there you gotta know all this stuff. Hardly rocket science. 108 only takes 2/3 points to draw. Geez. Who ya crappin?
