Losing my hunting buddy

I am losing the best hunting buddy I have ever had and pretty sure ever will have.
Khart, got a great promotion and with it came a transfer out of the state. We have known that it would eventually happen and have been lucky to have the few years hunting together that we have.

I first met Khart on Monster Muleys several years ago when he had drawn the same ML antelope tag that a young man I was taking hunting drew. Since then he has been on almost every hunt we have been on.
He is the kind of guy that if he tells you he will meet you at 3:00 am somewhere he will be there before you even if your 5 minutes early.

. If your making 250 lbs of burger and sausage he is there to help, he also comes to some of my sons basketball games, always ready with the wallet for gas, food, snacks.

He has also left work to help me pack elk out of BF Egypt.

Has called in turkeys for us to miss.
Always ready for any adventure. Zach and I are going to really miss him.
Thanks Kevin, you deserve all the best success.

Wow! Congrats Kevin on the promotion! We've never met, but talked on the phone several times about a oryx hunt I had. Nicer guy can't be found. Will definitely miss the great hunting photos of animals you have killed here in NM. Best of luck to you man! Where you moving to???

Congrates on the promo Kevin.. Hard shoes to fill for sure ,and bummer on moving, but you do what you have to these days.Hard shoes to fill for sure Paul,Zach will have to take up the slack...just kidding. He's no slacker. I had to do the same when I moved out here, and really been hunting alone since. Good luck to Kevin, never met him,but he's a true friend obviously.

Congrats Kevin on the job promotion. I know how ya feel Paul about losing a GREAT hunting buddy. They are hard to come by when you have one like Kevin.

Paul,
you have no idea.
I'm going through the very same thing.

You've seen the photos here on MM of me & my son over the years.
The love of my life has been spent in the mountains & on the river banks with this kid.
No amount of words can fully describe what we have.

http://www.monstermuleys.info/dcforum/DCForumID5/17096.html

He's 18 now with a serious girlfriend and making plans for the rest of his life.
He told me not to apply him for any hunts this fall as he would not be able to make it.

My heart simply broke.

This has been my #1 hunting & fishing buddy for a long time.

I look to the fall hunts this year as a solo hunter.
It's going to be really different.

I guess that's what grand kids are for.

I feel for you with all my heart.

HH

If you can and if they have them grab a lifetime hunting license before you leave the state.

"I have found if you go the extra mile it's Never crowded".

Sorry to hear that good huntin buds are hard to find.I can always find someone who wants to go hunting with me but I only have one good huntin bud.Kevin :Congrats on the promotion and good luck.

Harry, you know I dread that day Zach will be to busy with his life or moves off to college to hunt with me.
I know its coming.
Right now what I hope he does not do is play football. His school is small and he is one of the better athletes so he gets a lot of pressure to do it. Football takes all a kids time.
I left the decision up to him and for now he is going hunting with Dad.
Cant replace a hunting partner like Kevin. I have always liked solo. My wife hunts, but, she is no where near as passionate about it as Kevin or myself. I am always happy to have her with me. Zach never complains even when we find ourselves 5 miles from the truck with a load and very little water between us.

Good idea about Kevin getting a lifetime hunting license before he moves.

I know the big animals in NM will be a lot safer now that Kevin is leaving.

Kevin, if you see this post up some of the animals you have got the last few years.

Words cannot describe how I feel knowing that I have to leave my 2 best hunting buds and this great state. Paul and Zach are always ready for whatever hike we come up with. It's going to be tough saying good bye!
Harry - I've enjoyed reading your posts and looking at your pictures the last few years. I wish you and Thomas the best.--Kevin
Here's a few pics that I'll treasure forever. Paul and Zach were with me on nearly every hunt.

Congrats on the promotion.Just think of it as a new opportunity
to find new hunting ground in a new state.Never know you just might end back up in NM.Best of luck on your endeavours.

Sweet lookin pics khart good luck..

HH, you and your son have had some good times for sure, I'll bet he's got hunting and fishing in his blood and he'll be back at it as soon as the sweething wears off. We were all 18 once and at that age a pretty girl pretty much takes control for a while.

Hey NMPAUL, I don't know if you know me but my name on here is stinkystomper. I'm currently in the process of changing my username to nmpaulsnewbestfriend. I'm a real personable guy and get along with everyone. I'm sure you son will love hunting with me and I will quickly fill the shoes left by what sounds to be your dying friend?

With that said I'm ready to get started. Lets first talk about our barbary hunting for next year. Where do you want me to start scouting. I know khart found some monsters this year and I will just pick up there.

Thanks for the friendship offer and I look forward to stealing..... I mean hunting in your newly found areas.

Sincerly ...... Stinky

soon to be nmpaulsnewbestfriend

First of all Khart, congratulations on your promotion. Paul I feel your loss. Over the last 37 years due to transfers or job changes I have lived and or worked in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, and now Missouri. Good hunting partners are hard to find and leaving one or having one move is tough. Over the years I have had 3 or 4 really good ones and every so often it works and I get to hunt with one of them.

Over the past 10+ years my two boys have been my main hunting partners. Hunter Harry it is hard but mine have grown up moved out of state and do not hunt with me now. Paul enjoy your time with Zach because girls, school, and work are on the horizon.

Khart I hope your promotion takes you to some prime hunting country.

Paul instead of letting Stinky become nmpaulsnewbestfriend maybe you should take applications and resumes. LOL

LAST EDITED ON Mar-12-11 AT 02:47PM (MST)[p]First off, Stinky eats tuna, broccoli, spinach, and olive oil smoothies.
My pack has candy bars, zingers, jerky and M&Ms. At least when I forgot something Kevin would have a granola bar.
Stinky would pull out a smoothie that smells like day old elk guts.

I have standards. Besides, Stinky would not have any time for me because of all the free oryx hunts that he has promised to guide for.

Can anyone believe that Kevin killed all those trophies in I am pretty sure less than 4 years.
That is amazing. There are people hunting all their lives that have not put up that many quality animals.

edit... Let me add, Kevin got all of those on public land DIY.
He may not be the best hunter in the world, but, nobody out works him.

There is a taxidermist that is gonna have to get a 2nd job when Kevin leaves.

I'll pour chocolate syrup on my tuna! hehehe
lets compromis here paul, im totally flexible. At least I am as long as you don't ask my wife. she says im that fish on finding nemo that says wherd ya go wherd ya go wherd ya go? lol
