I drew this tag this year and was wondering if anyone has any pointers on hunting moose in this area. I have never been able to before. Looking for the best time to go? I'll have about 2+ weeks to take off for this hunt. Thank you.

In my opinion there are 3 good times to go. Before the opener you can peg a big bull not easy to keep tabs on him but doable as its before the rut. My biggest shiras was taken this way in Idaho...167. During the rut later part of Sept into first week of Oct depending where you live is the other great time. Lastly a lot of big bulls fall post rut mid to late Oct if you season allows, they can be tracked easily in snow and love clear-cuts. Took my 145 shiras that way after striking out on the first two times in Wyoming...good luck...helluva tag.

And to answer your question hunt all 3 best times in smaller trips instead of taking the whole 2 weeks at once.

Thank you for your help. I was thinking about going for a week the end of September, a week in October, and if I have to a week in November.

Here's pictures from my Hunt!!

Congrats, glad you were successful. Did you get a chance to hunt several times? What did you think of the numbers of bulls you saw/encountered? Did you harvest this close to the end of the season on purpose?

Blank, I got him the last week of September which was the first week I had planned to go. I wish I took the first week of October off because I got him the day before I had to leave and the next day they where rutting hard. I could have had a chance to pick out a really big one but. I'm vary happy with this guy he's still bigger than I had imagined getting!!

Nice. It looked like you were up on the pass, and sometimes that gets a lot of pressure. I know several people who took big bulls in 67, but they were down towards the Wyoming line farther.

Well it's been a couple years now. But I get to do this one more time. This is the first year my daughter has to put in as an adult hunter so I asked her what she wanted to put in for this year? Well she said I want to put in for moose dad, ok let's put you in. Come to find out she drew the same damn tag I did two years ago. I couldn't believe it. Well this time I'm not going in blind I kinda know the area pretty good and the time frame to be there.

Congrats to your daughter. Is she stout enough to tote your 338? ;) If not, moose are not hard to kill.
I wish we could take my new 338 I just got. I ordered it around the time I got my tag but 2 years later it shows up. It's a 338am. I'll attach some pictures. No she will be using her 7mm-08 I got her a couple years ago.
