Got it done tonight.

Decided I would take advantage of my being under 18 and go chase some turkeys today.

The wind completely shut down all attempts at calling. So I walked down a canyon to see if i could sneak up on some and could not beat all the stupid elk off with a stick. Despite spooking every elk there, The turkeys were undisturbed. I spotted a couple hens feeding about 150 yards down the canyon. I dropped my pack and started belly crawling towards the birds. I finally got within about 75 yards of the group and they started to feed right towards me. I got setup behind a pine without getting caught. The biggest gobbler fed up to 15 yards in front of me. The rest was history.

Sorry about the pic, I was using a log as my photographer.

Great job Jordan!! Way to get it done. Super windy and not calling and you put the sneak on them.
Leg must be doing better.

Jordan, was thinking this is one of the few solo youth turkeys.
Pretty cool. I think you got one solo last year also.
Way to get it done on the turkeys bud.
One more tag to fill. Got a good recipe if you need one.
Hope you draw some good tags this year.

Thanks Paul,

Ill be going after one next week with my bow, doubt it will be as quick and painless as this hunt was though.

If you want to email me that recipe i would really appreciate it. Last time we tried to cook one it was not very appetizing.

Great turkey recipe.

First make a cream sauce.

half cube butter melted over a medium heat, use metal whip and mix in 1/4 cup flour.

Cook and mix this with the metal whip till it starts to turn golden (a rue).

Not required, but, if you have it add a half cup of dry white wine to it still on heat and still mixing it.

Then add a couple cups of chicken broth still stirring. Add a half cup of whole milk and then a quarter cup of cream or half and half. Cook to a boil. It should be fairly thin at this point.

Set this aside.

Take the breast and the boned out thighs and cut them about 1/2" slices. flatten/tenderize them with a kitchen mallet. Wild turkey can be tough, but, the flavor is really good. Flatten them to about 1/4" thick.

Lightly flour them with flour that has salt, pepper, granulated garlic to taste.

Fry them in oil to lightly brown. Lay the fried turkey cutlets in a shallow baking pan.

put a handful of sliced raw mushrooms on each cutlet spacing them in the pan so they do not overlap.

Pour the cream sauce over each mound and try to cover all the mounds pouring the contents in the pan.

Sprinkle shredded swiss cheese mixed with parmesan cheese on top of each mound.

Put in oven pre heated at 325 until golden brown on top (20-40 minutes) and bubbling. Set out for about 20 minutes before serving over rice. Rice pilaf is the best.

Big shortcut would be to use cream of mushroom soup in a can, but, nowhere near as good.

Even if you think you do not like mushrooms you need to try it.
