Gentlemen,

Does anyone have any useful information on the Murders creek unit for archery. My brother and I drew the tag and are not familiar with the area. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not a bow hunter but I know the unit well. I'll be there in rifle season.

Lots of elk , lots of public land and from what I hear lots of bow hunters. there's water everywhere and there really no place off the valley floors that won't have elk. quality isn't what it used to be but it still decent. the north part of the west side is steeper and less roads. the east side has some wilderness and is rougher for the most part. there's some huge burns over the last 30 years on Strawberry and some newer ones on Aldrich. pretty open still in most of those areas.

PM me if you want something more specific, but honestly just look at the map and find a spot you think you'd like and go there. it's somebody's honey hole.

Maybe a little research before you draw the tag? First time poster, elk are elk and no matter where you are hunting them, they all need food, water, and shelter.

We put in for the tag as a means to save points and did not plan on pulling it. Just looking for a general idea of where to begin with e-scouting as I do not know the area and we have a ways to travel to the area. Anyways thanks for the response

Thanks for the response, appreciate it! Just looking for a few areas that would be good to E-Scout before hand. We live a good clip away from the area. Thanks again!

On the west side , Deer Creek and Flagtail are always known for being good elk country. to the north of that is steeper and higher elevation with less roads. the NW corner has a lot of burnt area .

On the east side of 395 you'll find most of the public land to the north has burnt in the last couple decades and is pretty open and steep. I'm not a bow hunter but it wouldn't seem like a good bet to me. the south part east of Seneca and east of the burn always has elk.

Just pick a spot on the map and take a look when you get there. anyplace above 4000ft with good cover will have elk . as always the best places will be where the most hunters are so you'll just have to decide how you want to play that.

You can still OTC hunt instead if you don’t want to go learn a new area
