That bottom fish is the biggest cutthroat I’ve ever seen caught. I didn’t catch it, but I netted it and took some pictures, so I can kind of claim it.
You see it both ways Bessy. I’m not sure I’ve ever paid attention enough to compare overall, but I’m guessing the distribution you see here in pics are a good indication on the ratio you’d see.
You should definitely come out and enjoy the PLP Rez. Some of the most beautiful landscape and skyscape I have ever seen. If you have tribal connections and can fish Summit Lake, they have an awesome strain of Cutties up there too. ----SSI always wanted to go to pyramid lake, but I’ve never made it there. I’m going to go this year now. My great grand father was a tribal member over there and I want to go see the land that was stolen from them!
Paiute Cutthroat......only native to Silver King creek that feeds into the Carson River in Cali......F&G planted them in the North fork of Cottonwood creek in the whites....for protection if Silver King lost them..this one is from Cottonwood creekTell me more, Homer!
I’ll have to find out about the fishing at summit lake. My great grand father left there to come to the Ute reservation to teach school at the boarding school in white rocks.. married a uintah Ute and that’s where we come from. I’ll go to the tribal office when I get over there and see what they say. Thank you SSYou should definitely come out and enjoy the PLP Rez. Has anyone on this thread been able to or know anyone who has been able to break the slot limit at strawberry this year? Even though the water is high and there should be plenty of feed, the cutthroats I have seen have been average or below average in weight.
It might be time to poison it againDo You Realize How Many TRASH Fish Are In Strawberry?
Makes It Tough For Trout To Do Well & Get Big With With That Many JUNK Fish In It!
There's A Few Walleye In There But Not Enough!
Don’t get me wrong, you can still go there and have fun and catch a bunch of fish. I went once a few weeks ago and caught 34 between two of us and a buddy went a week ago and caught 61 between two people, all trout.
Congratulations on breaking the slot. You are the only one I have heard of doing it in a long time! I hope that was 2024In The PRIME Of Strawberry/Several Years After It Was Poisoned We Caught Numerous Cutts & Rainbows In The 28"-32" Range!
Oh And Smaller Too!
Last Time I Was Out There I Only Caught One Cutt That'd Break The Slot & He was A Weakling When It Came To Putting Up A Good Fight!
