LAST EDITED ON Aug-20-14 AT 09:51AM (MST)[p]ok I have a friend that drew a southern Utah LE archery tag, he has had a few trail cams set up since mid July and has been seeing some decent bulls, 2 days before hunt he goes to check his camera and finds another camera and a ground blind right in front of is camera, What would you do??? and to top it off, its a guide service. (and just to clear the air its not Mossback)
 
Get in there early and sit in their blind haha just kidding that's a good way to end up in a fight, BUT it does happen all the time on public land if you set the blind up and leave it, its not "legally" your blind/spot. Good luck to your buddy!
 
Move the blind. Fold it up and move it. There is nothing wrong or bad about that. Dont damage or do anything bad. Just fold it up and move the blind to the side or back behind the trees and out of the way. One bad thing Ive heard happen is to take a big harry dump in the blind. Thats mean and I would be pissed if that happened to me, but I also wouldnt pu a blind up right infront of others cameras. Oh well public hunting grounds at its best.
 
public land... either move your camera to a new tree, or move his blind over. Better get up early to get there first though.

There are many things that would be nice to wish for or say but then I would be just like him.
 
I can't believe u guys leave game cams on public land. In colorado u would no longer have a game cam if u left it!
 
Set another Blind just in Front of His Blind!

If He has a Treestand,set one just above/below His!

Maybe set a Blind up big enough for everybody!

A Card Table!

Leave them a note with your number. I'd try and talk them before you do anything. You never know how someone will react if you mess with their blind. Even then if it's that good if a spot, I'd spend the night in there to make sure I got there first.

Plus hunter harassment is against the law also even if its another hunter doing.

I would spread as much human scent as possible and move on. Pee allover the blind, get Mason jars pee in them, stash them on all the incoming trails. Let the guide look worthless when nothing shows up.
 
Call him and ask why they stuck the blind in front of your camera instead of on another tree. If he's a deuch about it tell him you'll be there next to him 3 hours before daylight on opening day. Might not be a big deal either.
 
Nothing pisses me off more than guides that think they own a spot on public land. I would, with out a doubt, take a big number two in their blind and let the guide explain to there client why somebody took a crap in their blind.

So you would screw up a good water hole just to be pissy? I think there are better options like get there first and hunt.
 
So did they set the blind/ camera up blocking the view of his camera? If they did. That is wrong ...if they did not...that is hunting. You just have to get there first. As far as the remark about leaving a blind and it not legally being yours anymore...I don't agree with that one bit. I've had people put cameras on the same tree as mine...no big deal as long as they don't mess with my camera. Its public ground. I have not put my camera on the same tree as someone else though :)
 
Years ago I spent a couple hundred dollars and spent a couple days building a nice duck blind on public land. The only way I ever got to use it was to go out and spend the night in it. Otherwise someone else would occupy it.

That is really low on the guide's part.But that's the kind of things you run into on public land.Can you move a couple hundred yards and intercept the elk before they get to his blind ?
 
Im not a fan of guides, many of them have been really rude in my experiences but a few have been nice.

That said, just because someone leaves a trailcam on a spot does not mean they have it reserved for themself. I can easily see that "reserved" nonsense being abused.
 
I wouldn't mess around with tryin to talk sense into em... Obviously they have already taken a step in the opposite direction most of us would. I say either leave it or get there first. The laws about leaving a blind on public ground are very clear, at least in the waterfowling world. I would imagine Big Game to be the same. If you pack it out you would be cleaning up their "litter", unless its made from native material. I wouldn't recommend that, though.

I'm sticking with be there before them, but be ready for a showdown, try and intercept the animals first, or go somewhere else. That showdown situation is spooky and can turn bad in a hurry... Sucks, but Good Luck!

It seems that hunting anymore has become a $$$ deal. this outfitter/guide/whatever, has 20+ trail cams out and about 25 guys walking all over the mountain in search big bulls for there clients/trigger pullers, God what happend to the good ole days!!!! Again thanks for the replies! and good luck on your hunts!! and can anybody tell me where I can find a underwater trail cam to find some big fish!!!!!!!!

I can't see any reason not to try and talk with them first. They may have a decent explanation, they may be decent people. Give them a call and let them know what has happened and ask what their plans are on the hunt...

If they don't want to communicate, let them know you will be sitting in or at least next to their blind come opening morning.

I would also try and scout a new location if you have the chance.

It's public land, and there's nothing worse than anyone thinking they own it or that spot! The problem here is it sounds like your buddies can was in the best spot on the water, and might be the best spot for a blind as well. It's public land and you all have the right to use it responsibly. The camera nor the blind entitle either of you to that spot, water hole or area. Be polite and try to get there first :)

The explanation is that they are paid to find animals. They aren't paid to be considerate, or nice, or sporting, they are paid to find animals. BUTTT, last I checked littering on BLM or National Forest was illegal? Something about pack it in, pack it out???? I am with Bessy though, I would put a blind in front of his, just to be as big a ##### as he is. I would never steal a trail cam, but I ain't opposed to covering a lense with leaves, SORRY BOYS, but scouting should involve a human! And yeah, I like to take and look at pics of animals, but what seperates a trail cam from a drone?? Way I see it both of you take this crap WAYYYY TO SERIOUS. Funny that the guide is a ##### for having all his "spotters" on the mountain, but you can cover it with cameras and your OK? At least his spotters are actually doing the work, your watching on "tv". Yeah I am an honery old bastard, but there are more trail cams in the forest now days than at that girls house I pay money to watch on the internet.

Try to find out a little about the outfitter. If he is a decent guy you might work out something. Don't lose track of whats most important. You and first morning hunt instead of fight. If he is a ##### remember he likes battery operated toys such as trail cams. Leave him a very loud transistor portable radio with one of those flashing red lights hung as high as possible near the blind. Surely someone sells a battery powered clock-turn on device. Hide it well a couple of days in advance and check on the sight after your first day hunt.
 
This story sounds similar to what my buddy experienced this summer while scouting. We set up a trail cam in a saddle that has had the same tree stand hanging in the same tree for like 10 years. Apparently the owner of the tree stand took offense to his camera and wrote on the trees in charcoal to "keep out" and other threatening messages. The angry hunter then shut his trail camera off and hung one on a tree right next to it.
