drew cow elk tag for unit 52 after thanksgiving weekend..plan not to use since our boys killed 2 cow elk first weekend of NOV on youth hunt only..freezer full now with elk and antelope....decided late afternoon on Friday and told boys and wife..let's go for elk on saturday for the day to hunt for the elk..there is the Encouragement youth hunt also which was open on Friday the 29th for elk and 150 hunters on Saturday too in 52 so I thought elk might be spooked..but anyway..left house at 4am and got to the area at 6..still dark so we all waited in the truck..around 630 am started glassing and saw WOW 300 elk and told boys and wife wait in the truck since so cold, took off and I used my son's 7mm08 and hiked up the hill....7 am cow elk down at a 250 yard shot..nice cow...boys and wife heard a shot, glassed the action from the truck and saw me waving at them....they got the backpacks and stuff and met me on the hill..what an awesome family HUH..we got home at 1 pm with cow...
