They Were Hunting Cow Elk So Hard They Had The Deer Pushed High Here Locally & We Got 3-1/2' Of Snow In One Night!

The Snow Crusted & I've Never Seen Coyotes Kill Deer Like They Did That year!

Surprisingly I Seen Some Decent Bucks In 94!

Pressure basically year round is a lot worse on the deer herd than 200K + hunting for a couple days a year. Just my opinion.

Any chance you, or anyone else, has a deer population graph that goes back prior to the 90s? Preferably at least into the 70s. I’m pretty intrigued, especially to see the corresponding graph for elk population?

The answer to that is elk increasing dramatically and deer numbers dropping dramatically a few years later after the lag effect has come into play. Just my theory

YES! This could finally be something we can all agree on around here.

For years I've been preaching things like "we as a hunting community need to have at least one thing we can all agree on so we can have a common ground to at least start building something that resembles a foundation to build success on ...".

This could be it! Are there any monster muley members that disagrees that elkassassin having a tag (pretty much any tag) does little if any damage what so ever to our utah herds?

And we all now might to step back and possibly give elkassassin an apology. Most of us at one time or another have accused him of never contributing anything positive around here. Then he post this and totally redeemes himself!

You see, us regular knuckle heads, that aren't on a special DWR committee, or high ranking mule deer foundation official, or have connections to the dude that runs the expo permit draw in his basement, only get a general season tag every three to five years, on a POS unit, IF we're lucky and point creep don't get us! Not to mention, every five years, when we do draw a tag..... There's no deer because all the DH and LL HOLDER KILLED THEM ALL.

Well, I guess you’d have to ask Bessy. His post wasn’t about killing deer, or even the number of deer. He talked about how season dates stacked upon each other for months on end is hurting deer.

So, I just thought it was an odd complaint for a guy that actually has a tag that lasts that long and is part of that. Odd, indeed!

Some of us give our time without being required to in exchange for a tag that lasts for months with seasons stacked upon each other.

But then again, we also aren’t complaining about a hunt calendar that has hunts lasting for months with seasons stacked upon each other.

Define "donated hours" and I can surely try and get a figure together.

Just not sure what your definition is. For example... does it include hours outside of the dedicated hunters program like cleaning up the dikes after the waterfowl season? Finding a trash dump on the mountain roads and loading it up on the weekends and getting it to where it belongs in the dump? Taking a trailer and a group of guys out to the blm land around the lake and cleaning up what the target shooter accidentally left behind? Pheasant forever projects..... ducks unlimited projects and donations....removing old fencing around winter ranges our critters are getting tangled up in? Pulling dyers woad? Volunteer counting animals for number surveys? Do I get any credit hours for fuel and equipment costs?

Get me a definition and I'll throw together a rough number for ya.
