50 Yard Groups

Hello all,

I am a newbie to archery and in fact have only been shooting for about 7 months now, but was curious to know what everyone considers a respectable group at 50 yards? Let's see some targets to prove it! Thanks in advance..

Well I have no pictures of it but if you can get a group about the size of a grapefruit, you are doing better than average. Aim small miss small. My practice target is black so i will take a 1" square piece of white notebook papper and pin it to the target and aim for that. It helps to get the groups smaller.

They're a little high and right. You might want to consider making an adjustment.

Ha!!! That's a great group for 60 yards. I wonder how well you do with broadheads.

My rule of thumb is 1" for every 10 Yds of course you will need to open that up by 50% for most people shooting broadheads. Broadheads will expose any deficiencies in you shooting form, make sure you practice with your broadheads long before you hit the woods.

HaHa yes this was during the sighting in process and adjustments have been made.

I have changed arrows this year and went to a more heavy arrow and they are flying really sweet.

I shoot G5 montecs and can hit the large black ring pretty consistently at 60 yards.Dont know if i would shoot an animal that far but practising at those distances sure makes those 40 yard shots feel like a slam dunk.

muzzy125, It sounds like you've got this whole thing figured out. I agree completely with you practicing at the longer distances even though you don't plan on taking a shot that long. I used to practice at 100 yards (90 meters) for the Utah Summer Games, and that made hunting distance shots seem like nothing. 60 yards is my outside maximum on deer, and I've actually taken a couple of shots at that range. I ended up getting both deer, but I think it was more luck than skill. Good luck on the hunts, and don't forget to post pictures of your success so we can nit-pick every little detail. Ha, Ha.

Thanks DLeonard and good luck to you as well.

I think it is going to be a great fall.

I am leaving on Tuesday for a New Mexico Antelope hunt and then i will be back home for a weeks bowhunting.

I will have a archery tag for Bear,Bull moose,Bull Elk,Cow Elk and Mule Buck so hopefully i can connect on a few.
