3rd season

I didn't see as much rut activity in 66 3rd a couple years ago as I expected. and it was cold as hell with snow up high.

But from what I'm hearing maybe it's better this year. I'm starting to wonder what the advantage to 4th season is or if there is one? my wife has a 4th season tag this year and maybe it's not worth the extra points.

Here in OR the rut peaks about November 15th on an average year. CO is farther south so maybe that makes the difference since daylight hours are the key. just wondering not whining.

There’s certainly some advantage to fourth rifle. Over the years a lot of the true giant bucks I’ve watched haven’t poked their heads out until that Thanksgiving time frame….

I think Colorado peak breeding is around Nov. 20-22.

I suppose that makes sense. I had the late Kaibab tag a few years ago and they said it was around the first on December. hours of daylight . 4th goes the 20th-24th this year .

It's be interesting to see how 3rd goes.

I think it will go pretty well, especially first few days, seems like it will dry out and warm up after opening weekend, but bucks will still be rutting, probably more hiding midday though

Obviously I have very limited experience hunting in CO, but in 66 3rd at least I don't think snow up high matters that much. I wasted a day up in the Powderhorn with about 4-6" of snow and saw nothing but elk, I mean nothing not even a deer track.

I'll be hunting 33. Will there be snow on the higher stuff (Clinetops/Coulter)? On day 4, I'll be looking for one of those mature 2-3 year old bucks Colorado has been producing lately. :(

I have a 3rd season buck tag. I'm excited and looking forward to getting out and see what I can find. We've had good snow this week, for sure. Good luck all!

Out my back door. And yes, there's plenty of snow up high.
