Pauns

Unfortunately, if you have 20 points, that means in the 2024 draw you had 19 points, correct?

Reality Check: There are 46 people ahead of your point pool just for the Archery tag, and with only 2 bonus tags, it'll take 23 years to eliminate all of them. There are 34 ahead of you for a muzzy tag (17 years), and like 220 for rifle (4 tags= 55 year wait). 😬😬 You have to look at that tag as a total lottery win, and should never expect to draw any of them except for the 1 or 3 random tags (which odds are 1 in thousands). However, it looks like you are very close to a Management Tag. 50/50 in 2026 if all things remain the same as this year's draw.

If I were you, I would spend all summer scouting. Repeat in 2026, etc. You will know the unit exceptionally well when you draw. It is possible a deer born in 2025 will be alive still when you hunt it.

I'll answer your question DIY,
Deer numbers are down, the age class is down, dont get me wrong there are some stud bucks running around out there, but that can be said on any unit, the pauns is not what it built its reputation on.
IMO the late season muzzy hunts on the general units are comparable to the pauns in todays world.

Really? Which ones?

So would you prefer the Henry's or Oakcreek?

The very first year my hunting partner and I applied, which was when it was only muzzleloader we drew. I believe the year was 2000. So I guess I’ll just hope on being one of the lucky ones that draw with minimal points. Utah might need to look at allowing point holders to will there points to next of kin.. I’m 63 now so I don’t have another 20 years to wait…

You know that 8 General Season Units have bucks of a higher caliber than the Paunsaugunt.? Let's see some pics of ruttin or winter range bucks then man.! You don't need to say where...
Not higher, but I'd say equal. I spend a lot time on the pauns, and this year I didn't see a deer that would break 200, I understand just because I didn't see one doesn't mean it's not there. I surely don't know every inch of the unit but I'm quite comfortable with the unit.
And in my own opinion me personally, I would not apply for the pauns. I feel like the quality is way down, and not where it should be for LE unit, but to each his own.

You must not know the pauns that well, this was an incredible year. My client killed a 207 typical and we had a list of 10 deer over 200. But, I guess the pauns is down :ROFLMAO:

I hunted the PV for the enirety of the late muzz hunt and we didn't see a deer break 180 inches, most of the hunters saw and said the same thing. Notice how you didn't see Remi Warren post a giant buck with his late tag he had out there? No general unit comes even close to the pauns. I also have plenty of pictures to back up my claims, Happy hunting!

These are a few bucks from this year. The cactus buck went 240, my clients buck is the buck on the bottom. If you guys want a true pulse on the pauns look at Muley photos and deer be deads instagram, not some guy who really doesn't know what he's talking about :ROFLMAO:

I drew with 27nr muzzy 2 years ago. There is not another tag anywhere that I would rather have. You will never see pics of all the giants coming of there , that is top secret.
There's a lot of pictures that get posted of the deer harvested, just need to look on social media on the guides that outfit there. North Rim Outfitters, Mossback, Deer be dead, WLH all of them usually even announce that is was on the pauns..

Do you have a picture of the Cactus buck on the ground? The Muleyphotos buck (beetlejuice or 2nd pic) hasn’t been killed yet? Btw the buck your client killed is Studly! Score?

I do have a picture I’ll ask if I can share it. The beetle juice buck supposedly got poached a day before the archery hunt started. Thank you I appreciate that! He was 207”

Beautiful bucks and what a great picture of that buck just enjoying that big old thicky set of horns. There is some truly talented folks you see lugging them cameras with those lens around there.
