My brother and I drew deer 62 rifle 3rd season, we have spent some time on the unit getting familiar with areas, we understand that depending on the weather the deer can be strung from the divide road down to the river.
I'm starting to get an idea of what to expect on the hunt searching other threads on here.
I hear it's zoo with OTC elk hunters.
Is what I don't know, is what should I expect for deer quality?
If y'all don't mind sharing some pictures and stories from previous hunts from that area, it would be greatly appreciated.

Bringing this post back to the top, being 3rd season is a week away.
I'm pretty excited to be going on this hunt with my brother we haven't hunted together for a couple of years now.
Looks like snow is in the forecast for next week.
How much snow is on the ground now?
Our plan as of now is to hunt the long mesa area. Kinda curious if its even accessible by 4-wheeler?
What's everyone's thoughts on deer quality on this unit?
Depending on service I'll keep you all posted on how the hunt goes.

Saw some good bucks while Archery Elk hunting in 62 last year. There is snow on the ground now. Not a lot but more is on the way.

Hopefully these pictures post. I killed these bucks in CO unit 62. They came from the same general area. Northern end of the unit.

i have the points and was considering doing 62 3rd season next year or 551 3rd. those are nice bucks!!! i hope you kill a good buck justhunt
I'll do my best keep y'all posted through the hunt, not sure what I'll have for service, and besides being disconnected for a few days ain't so bad either.

Stay tuned........

I'm hearing report that there is some good snow up at that elevation, we might find ourselves hunting a little lower 🤷‍♂️
That’s where the deer will be anyway, down in the canyon bottoms. Snow line is about 5800’ right now. I’m sure they got a bunch more up top, probably in the 10-12” range. The soil is still pretty warm so I’d expect much of that to have melted by Saturday. It’s going to be muddy once the morning freeze has melted out.

I wish it was gonna stay cold, keep those roads frozen, looks like 50s for the weekend then another storm on Tuesday

We made camp about 7k feet, woke up on the first day to about 3 inches of snow. We went low over in dry creek area, seen a few deer but not a lot of sign. We did see a 5 point bull tonight tho, just outside of camp that was cool to watch.
Tomorrow we're going high.

Day 2, we went a little higher and seen more sign and couple more deer.
The best buck so far has been 140 3x4.
Not seeing a ton of deer but we are seeing about 10 to 15 head a day. The bucks we seen have not shown signs of rutting, but expect that to change any day. The deer look fat and healthy.
Can't wait to see what the morning brings.

Day 3, man what a difference one day makes, we seen probably close to 30 head today, 9 were bucks, the rut has appeared to kick off as it was definitely noticeable today, finally found a spot to put the spotting scopes to work in the flat sage brush country, and at 6:58 a.m. my brother had a buck down. It's really tall 4 point, with good forks. Now he has set a standard I hope I can meet it, I'll post pictures later.
Maybe tomorrow is my day!

Day 4, the addiction with hunting is the ups and downs, yesterday was a good day, today not so much.
My wheeler died going into the glassing spot, at 5 in the morning, it just flat out died, all electrical stuff powered out, after playing with battery cables, moving our way to the ignition we found it had a loose connection in the ignition. We fixed it and got back on the road, got to the glassing spot and seen 7 deer all morning, tonight we seen 1 lone doe. I'm sure the weather had something to do with as it was windy and snow flurries off and on.
Hopefully tomorrow is an upper
