Used all my NR points on this tag when I moved to WY. I was living in Alpine so it was not far and was planning on spending most of the season in the unit. Now I moved up to Cody and am trying to figure out if it's worth going down early with no real weather in site or just wait and hunt the last week and roll the dice. What do you guys think? Is it even worth the trip without any weather to get the deer moving? PMs are welcome

There is a resident deer in 141. If you have the time, I would be down there hunting as much as possible.

Thanks guys! The timing of moving was not perfect(last week), but I will get down there soon and stay for the rest of the season if needed.

Not really enough weather to move any big bucks down. I had to get as high as a could as a NR without going into the wilderness. The reason I even put in for this tag was I needed to use 14 NR points before I lost them, but I probably would have just preferred to hunt G or H in the early season. I think this tag is really hit or miss with the weather.

I watched this buck for 2 hours at 500 yards before deciding to shoot him. Had him feeding broadside for 30 mins and was not going to. I thought he looked too crabby, but after he beaded and I could look at his width and mass and the lack of bucks I was seeing I decided he was too good to pass. Probably the buck I DID NOT want to see. Too big to pass, but not really big for the tag.

No, I did not get tooth aged.

F&G measured him at 26", but I only came up with 25" when I taped him at 169 5/8. I probably rounded down a few 8ths so he was a 170ish deer. He was a big mature deer, but just lacked some tine length. Good thing he had long eye guards to make up a little.
Thanks for reporting back! Congratulations on a very nice buck! How many days did you scout/hunt?
