You have one buck to 25 doe in your town. Sounds about right that is what I saw five groups of about 6 doe and one buck in with a 6th group. Poor old boy has never left the 6th group that I can tell but like I said maybe he does make his rounds. Seems like a better method would be to add a few more bucks just to make sure.
By the way 1 buck to 25 doe is 4 bucks per hundred. I would say that is a pretty terrible deer herd

For or against, I'm sure we can all agree in some way that today's deer hunting is a mess because of the trends.

How many early season trail cam pics do we see starting in July on social media by Outfitters, Die Hard Trophy Hunters, then the average Wanna Be, just to gather followers, likes, gain popularity, to draw attention to their businesses and themselves.

We see numerous velvet pics followed by stories and then kill pics of how tough it was staying on these animals all summer with countless hours, days, eyes and money invested.

It has turned into nothing but a contest of who has the biggest animals, most clients, biggest trucks, best advanced tools of the trade and the coolest logo on their flat brimmed hat.

If you think it's still about "hunting", you couldn't be more wrong.
It's about stroking ego's and killing for money, fame, likes and follows.
It really is disgusting.

So who is to blame?
Every single one of us are for letting it get this far.
Even those who do not participate in any of this nonsense, you are still to blame for watching and allowing it to happen.

We can sit and fight, argue and banter each other till we run out of things to say, but at the end of the day, we all want the same thing......better hunting, better opportunities.

We've got to find some type of middle ground, make compromises and sacrifices to get in a better place for the sport we all love and share.
It's not simple, it's not without give and take, but it can be done with unity and understanding the end goal.

Once again, the DWR doesn't seem to see it the way 90% of the Sportsmans/hunters see it. Minor changes that won't do anything vs MAJOR changes that are absolutely necessary to even begin to make a difference.

I can't wait to see all of those wardens out enforcing the great new deal!

In summary. You haven't got a clue what your talking about, so you posted it in bullet points.

The trail cam thing wasn't about "herd growing", although it might help make it harder for poachers to troll IG pics for targets, which might help.

Further, there was AN ACTUAL SURVEY done showing that hunters wanted trail cams addressed.

The DWR won't have to spend a second on enforcement with me, because I won't be trying to get over on the reg. Nor will the vast majority of hunters. The handful that will, deserve whatever happens to their cams.

And YES I will be grabbing cams come Aug 1. It's litter, and I like to leave the forest cleaner than when I got there.


Now. There is a pile of research going on with YOUR LICENSE MONEY in herd dynamics, fawn mortality, habitat.

GO READ IT.

What about the hunters that can not hike back into most of the areas that the roads would be closed in, I guess they don't matter.
My question to you is what is the difference between the hunters wanting to close roads inorder to save deer and elk and the tree huggers that want to close roads to save the beautiful wildflowers?

In my hunting camp I have one liver transplant, 2 strokes, 1 cancer. 5 of whom are over 65.

I guess F them, that jeep is too disturbing, driving the very same roads they did as young men during the "golden age".

I’d like to share my thoughts on this. First off I support the ban, but I also don’t want this to be a wedge issue that divides us as hunters. We have enough outside influences already doing that. Also I don’t think anyone truly believes this law was intended to increase deer herds. I think that is a topic for a whole different discussion.
But I do think this is a good example of the laws catching up with technology. I think if 40 years ago the UDWR went to hunters and asked “would you support use of a new technology camera, which can be placed anywhere and everywhere, with no limit to the amount of cameras, even if it exceeds a 100. And these cameras can be placed on waterholes, seeps salt licks, trails, crossings, bedding areas and even wintering shed horn areas. Also these devices would have night vision, thermal imaging and real time photos with exact location coordinates. Plus there is no restriction on time. These can be placed before, after and during the hunting season”… In my opinion, I think the average hunter would have said no, especially the older veterans. But the cameras are out there and they’ve been in use and it’s now hard to put that genie back in the bottle. I also believe this is a start and we can probably expect more restrictions on technology.

I squealed all day about the end of hunting, and socialism, and looked pretty stupid.
 
As soon as people hunt like they did in 1940 they can talk about having the same regulations we did in 1940.

The idea that only technology can change and that regulation regarding that technological shift is somehow unwarranted is asinine.

Things have changed and the laws preserving our wildlife have to change with them.

I’ve never been able to kill a deer with the use of trail cameras. It has helped me determine the quality of bucks in an area that I hang them in. I have always pulled my cameras before the hunting season starts. Even tho I don’t archery hunt.
I’ve never killed a buck long range with my muzzy. Although the variable scope has helped me not wound them. It’s helped me make more proficient shots. Yes my eyes are not what they use to be.
I have been putting together a gun capable of killing long range. Doesn’t mean I have the capability or want or need to shoot long range.
These camera “issues” that so many of you speak about, have never been witnessed by me in my GS unit(s) and I probably hike on average 50 miles per year in the spring and summer. I guess the LE and premium units are a different story.
What I’m eluding to I guess is that a lot of these regulations forth coming are still gonna effect me although I’ve never taken advantage of what they are trying to stop.
I want the hunt to still be in hunting and I know how to police myself on ethics. Maybe not enough people do that so the WB thinks they can create regulations in hopes to police the hunters who don’t police themselves.
You can’t regulate ethics or integrity which is what they are trying to do.
These are nothing but feel good laws that are gonna wound more animals than one can imagine and do more harm to the average Joe when outfitters will just put more men on the mountain to locate and sit on animals.
I guess I’d like to hear the WB take more accountability for the lack there of when it comes to our herds. I’d like to see more impactful actions on there behalf to get more accurate data when it comes to harvests reporting and changing their method to count animals. Even if that means more flights.
I’m hear you say that both hunters need to be better at policing themselves and the board needs to be more proactive than reactive.

I could take or leave trail cameras. Frankly I dont use them for deer or elk anyway, just bear baits . But I’ve also never seen a big trail cam caused conflict in Idaho like there somehow seems to be in states like Arizona and now Utah. Could just be south of Idaho tard problem I guess?

Probably not going to happen. Cams ain’t banned, and guys ain’t getting rid of them. Just have to follow the rules and abide by the season dates IF you plan to hunt where you put your cams.

I want the hunt to still be in hunting and I know how to police myself on ethics. Maybe not enough people do that so the WB thinks they can create regulations in hopes to police the hunters who don’t police themselves.
You can’t regulate ethics or integrity which is what they are trying to do.
These are nothing but feel good laws that are gonna wound more animals than one can imagine and do more harm to the average Joe when outfitters will just put more men on the mountain to locate and sit on animals.
I guess I’d like to hear the WB take more accountability for the lack there of when it comes to our herds. I’d like to see more impactful actions on there behalf to get more accurate data when it comes to harvests reporting and changing their method to count animals. Even if that means more flights.
I’m hear you say that both hunters need to be better at policing themselves and the board needs to be more proactive than reactive.

That's not true. It was once considered ethical to use punt guns. To kill millions of bison, etc.

As to outfitters. They can only do what the market supports. Spotters cost a lot more than a cam. The "famous" guide that hunts the Boulder via "hundreds" of trail cams, ain't paying 100's of dudes to spot.

We all heard how baiting banwould only hurt the little guy. The results last year tell a different story.



But how exactly is the average Joe, "hurt"? In the big shlong contest? Maybe. In the IG Fame, possibly. But "hurt"? A bit of a stretch.

We are going to have to quickly decide if we want to be a fair chase state, or if we want to be Texas.

Am I one to argue someone who thinks someone who shoots over 300 yards isn’t fair chase or ethical? So is 299 yards not a long range shot but 301 yards is? Please help me answer these questions

Are hand signals fair chase but a text message isn’t? Someone please give me all your definitions of what is good and bad so I know my boundaries ?

Isn’t that what it REALLY means any time someone complains we are not united as hunters? “Quit going against what I want, unite with my way…it’s the only way we can survive!”

This trail cam issue splits hunters pretty evenly down the middle. Which side has to give in for us to unite?

Dwr doesn't have to enforce it. The cameras will get removed without any effort from them

There's no way all the big outfitters are going to run cams still. It's not worth it for them to get busted. They were the main problem with cams in the first place. Now hunters are required to be in the field. I don't see how this is not a win. Good job wildlife board!

- Do trail cameras keeps tabs on deer or Elk for us yes
- Do trail cameras let us know what time they are coming down a trail or hitting a water source yes
-Do trail cameras give us an edge to play the wind right when we walk into our spot with a camera on it yes
-Do trail cameras let us know if there is a shooter buck or bull in there and what time they are coming in mourning or night. yes
-Do trail cameras help in a big way from what i can see there that covers pretty much everything on being successful

Now put a season date on them you have to do it the old fashion way the way and put the time in like they did hundreds of years ago.

I get it I run cameras as well but i truly know it helps me in a big way.
That said I'm fine with a season date it just makes me have to hunt harder the way they it was before all this technology bull crap.

I truly think this is a step in the right direction it is putting the hunt back into hunting and we all have kind of forgotten that I know i have.....

-Would this be a small but good change , of course it could be , but its going to be business as usual for most everybody. People will be a little more crafty about where they are putting them. You probably won't see 3 or 4 together on the same water hole out in the open anymore.
-So you will have hunters tearing down cameras of other hunters on there way in to check there own cameras!

Just when you think they can't up with anything more lame, the Wildlife Board astonishes us and comes up with this great new law to save the day. Not sure what good trail cameras are anymore anyway, there aren't enough critters out there to justify putting up a camera!

I'm 7emails and 3days from Wade Heaton.

He's either OCD as hell, or he is livid.

What this WILL do is hit outfitters who have made entire buisness models on cams.

While Joe blow, might take the chance, gone is the outfitters trolling for buisness by publishing pics.

And, they'd be fools to get caught with cams up.

Now they will of course, like Heaton has, keep saying "we will kill big bucks regardless".

But, like after the bait ban hurt the "quality"( I mean the drought?), there are guides, of whom some are "famous" that will be forced to look at a new buisness model.

Dumping big piles of apples and covering them with cams, will be replaced by paid spotters.

Like any business, labor is the greatest cost.

The reality. This ban is aimed 100% at the corporate hunting world.

No one cared that Joe blow put up a couple cams. We all cared that we were overwhelmed by the massive amount of cams the "pros" run.

Guys wait decades to pull a rag, only to show up to apples piled up, and a Hollywood sound stage.

Yeah. We need to figure out a way to address all the spotters/sitters.

Good on the WB for hitting back at the corporate hunters. For too long Utah has bowed down to them.

those hunters will also share the location with the DWR where these cameras are located on onX so In turn you will start seeing more and more DWR officers out in the field and in the trees and in our hunting spots….

So if you hunters don't want this i would play by the rules/law...

like setting them on a trail before a water hole or high up in a tree's.
Then they will set them up on a ranchers salt block that rancher placed out for cattle. this one right here the hunters will think it's a loop hole or grey area and they will just say it's a ranchers.

The thing about the ranchers in my unit not one of them run cameras so they better rethink that one....


Will cameras get destroyed I don't think so I have never had a camera destroyed and i don't lock mine up (I've hunted my unit for 25 plus years and ran cameras for 12 years in my unit I know that 99% of the cameras are hunters) I truly think they will get donated to the DWR as they should.

I don’t think its lame at all And 49% of the hunters disagree with you I look at it as a good start to put the hunt back into hunting.
