dryflyelk Active Member Messages 842 Apr 2, 2008 #7 I'd warn against either. With a 12x42, you're not getting nearly as much light into your binos as you would with say a 10x42 or a 15x56. If you go 12x, (which I'd only do with a tripod), go for an objective lens greater than 50mm.
