Has anyone ever hunted with Trophy Stone Safaris -- Outfitter Curt Thompson for Stone Sheep? I am researching hunting with him and wanted to get some input.

The other outfitter I am looking into is Indian river ranch in BC. This outfit sold last year to a new owner. Anyone know anything about him?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You might trying posting a inquiry on the community message board of the Grand Slam Club / Ovis (http://wildsheep.org/eve/ubb.x). You might turn up some info there. You can certainly obtain info on both outfits from the executive director of that organization, Dennis Campbell.

I'm hunting with Curt in his Dall concession in about a month in the Yukon. Heard great things about both Dall and stone areas. Curt is on the board of Directors of FNAWS. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the posts. I ended up booking with Curt. I will be hunting for a trophy stone ram in August. I have only heard good things about him and his outfit.

Denali--good luck and let me know how your hunt turns out.

YES, AS I UNDERSTAND IT CURT RUNS FIRST RATE HUNTS. I RESEARCHED DALL HUNTS FOR THREE YEARS, AND HE IS CLOSE TO THE TOP OF MOST SHEEP HUNTERS LIST. HE CALLED ME 3 WEEKS AGO WITH A CANCELLATION HUNT-- I COULD NOT MAKE IT HAPPEN. I HERE, AND HE SEEMS LIKE A GOOD FELLA. TAKE ER EASY, YD. (PEOPLE AT FNAWS 2004 SPOKE HIGHLY OF CURT ALSO).

I've heard alot of good things about him, but not sure what his stones are like? Most of the stones I've seen come from the Yukon are pretty white (Faninn Sheep). If your ok with a stone that might look like a dall then you should be in good shape. I personally choose to hunt in BC because I wanted a dark Stone.

PS. Yukon Dall, what was the price he was asking for the cancellation hunt?

Dark bodies but predominantly very light faces. That's exactly what Curt had told me when I was inquiring about a cancellation slot he had open a few years ago. He sure seems like a straight shooter to me.

Yep thats exactly what a faninn sheep is, dark body light face. Some of the rams in the pics have a real white face. So much so you wouldnt know if they were a Dall or a Stone on a shoulder mount. Like I said if thats ok with you then you'll have no worries. But if you want a dark ram (true stone) BC is probaly the place to go. Of all the pics I saw on the link I would only call one or two of them stones.
