:) :) :)

It says: "Royce Van Tassell wants to raise the gas tax by 25 cents per gallon"

I understand that to be adding 25 cents to the existing 24.5 cent tax per gallon. Perhaps they meant "to" 25 cents a gallon.

It reads right. The current tax is 24.5 cents per gallon. They want to raise it by an additional 25 cents per gallon resulting in a 49.5 cent per gallon total tax.

They also want to remove the exemption from double taxation so you not only get taxed 49.5 cents per gallon, but an additional 4.57% of the total fuel purchase.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt double taxation illegal?

Good call. I guess gas prices aren't high enough now. I would hope the Governor would veto any such bill, but I have little faith.

I would prefer toll booths over ANOTHER tax scheme. If taxes are raised, gas consumption will go down, negating the 'profits'. We already pay how much for mass transit? Where will this end? If there is more traffic on the roads, shouldn't they already be bringing in more money from the increased gas usage?
