My first shed I found on an elk hunt. I was about 6 or 7 years old. It was a 2 year old 7 point elk shed. It was bigger than me so I was dragging it back to the truck with my heart raceing. I was looking for elk and I saw this big point sticking out of a tree. I didnt know what it was so I went and checked it out. When I saw that it was an elk antler I freaked out. And that was my first shed.

I would love to read the storys of your first shed.

Thanks,

My first shed was when I was about 12 years old. I was deer hunting with my dad and we cut down a steep face, the face was so steep that I was practically sliding on my butt. All of the sudden I looked over and about two feet from my hand was a big moose palm. I packed that thing around the rest of the day, and kept it on my dresser in my bedroom until I got married and moved out. I don't know what ever happened to that thing. I bet my mom threw it away when I moved out.

funny most of these stories are little kids going out hunting with their dads.
my first shed was one of those stories as well. my dad took me hunting i was probably 6 and i was sitting there watching a hill side with him and just happened to look over and spoted a 4 point laying there. i took it back and all the other kids were blown away. my yellow lab ended up using it as a chew toy cause i never knew i could go out and pick them up as a hobbie until a few years later. i thought it was a fluke thing when i was young i didnt know people did it as a hobbie. back when it wasnt a foot race like it is these days.

When I was young if we found a shed, we brought it back to camp and threw it the fire to make our parents mad cause of the smell it put out.... Man how times have changed.....LOL

My first shed was a big old 80" four point that was all mossy and cracked, it was probably 7-8 years old. I was hooked from that point on. It was 16 years ago now and I can still smell the wet pine needles and see it exaclty where it was laying and how it felt to walk up to it and pick it up and feel the weight of it in my hands. I still get exactly the same rush now when I find an antler as I did that day. I kinda wish I still had that old thing.

I was young enough that I was riding with my dad on a horse and my older bro was on back of grandpa. I can't remember for sure who found it but I remember me and bro playin with it and grandpa telling us to throw it down before we took off. It was just a little 3-point but it sure was cool.

Grandpa is 92 now and he still cant understand why we spend time looking for sheds.

Nice post, Thanks for bringing up fond memories.

I was deer hunting with my dad in southern utah near Blanding, and found a nice set probably 2 years old laying under a tree. I have no idea where they went. I remember how cool I thought it was. It's funny how some people (like me) think it's so awesome to find an antler, and some people could really care less. I seriously feel better finding a big set, then when I shoot a deer. I love to find antlers!!! Maybe it's all attributed to that first find.

The first shed that I found I was on an archery hunt during the rut in AZ my friend and his dad had been watching a four point with a six in. drop on one side and we decided to go and try and hunt him. We fond the does he was usualy with but never saw him shortly after spooking the deer out of the contryI looked down the hill and saw a shed i ran down to it and couldnt believe that it was the drop tine bucks from the year befor. It was about 7yrs later when i finly got the fever and have to go every year
