Young hunters and Wyoming gobblers

I know Wyoming is not too well known for it's turkey hunting besides in the Black Hills, but we have quite a few scattered around. My two grandsons, both 10, took a spring double the other day on a pair of great birds. This is the 3rd year in a row they have been successful, starting when they were 8.

It was definitely a special hunt, the boys keeping their cool while I called to the birds, one boy with me, the other with my son-in-law, a couple yards away. To me, turkey hunting is all about camouflage, sitting perfectly still, back to a tree and calling them in. It was a classic!

And it was their idea to pack the birds almost a mile back to the truck!

I love turkey hunting in the Spring almost as much as calling bulls in the rut in September. I fact, I've been out 2 of the first 3 mornings of our first 2 week season up here calling for an attorney friend. I had a big bird inside 40 yards both mornings and Pete didn't shoot either one of them. I think he just likes to sit and watch them as much as I do as they come in that he doesn't want to end the season in just the first couple hunts, LOL!

Dang , that is good as it gets right there!!! the bird with the young man without the gun in the first Pic is as pretty as a merriam as you will find. Those 2 boys will be hooked for life on hunting turkeys. Thanks for posting !!
