Hey all I got lucky and beat the odds with a unit 3-1 mtn goat tag. looking for any input or direction, on the hunt. I am a nonresident so just weighing my options of outfitters or hooking up with a Wyoming resident. Are there any areas outside of the wilderness that holds goats? looking at the maps the non wilderness areas seem relatively small. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Meade Dominick for sure.
Area 3 is the roughest WY goat area with lower densities; he's got the stock, the skill, and knows that area.

I had the type 2 tag last year. Most all of the goats we saw were in the wilderness. I am a NR so I hunted with my buddy that lives is WY. It was a crazy awesome hunt and we were in about 7 miles when I killed mine.. Enjoy the hunt it will be awesome!

Wow--- you got lucky !! If I remember right, this is the area right outside Alpine. My son drew that tag in 2009, we stayed in Alpine, could see the goats right from the motel in a big basin to east northeast of town. Lots of goats too, critical thing is timing there--- last 2 weeks of season in Oct , best hair & they winter there in that basin, per locals. In just 2 days, my son got his -- a 9 3/4 heavy billy, a real beauty. It made a fabulous mount !! Do not go in Sept--- crummy hair & HOT ! Also, my son got so lucky , his guide was a friend of ours that guides for sheep & goats every summer in Alaska & knows his business well. They hiked in & did recon the first day, went for the kill 2 nd day & got him at 267 yards with a 7 MM Rem Mag, one ##### kill, he stopped the bullet too. They brought all the meat out, plus head & cape too. My son, only 30, was wiped out. Guide-- just another day at the office. Those guys are just amazing! I sat in the truck all day-- I am 70 now with bum knees. You can rent horses in Alpine or close by I think. We drove to the base of that basin right out of Alpine using F S Roads, easy drive except in a few muddy holes, we used our 4 W D Ford F 150. Be glad to tell you anything I know/recall. A very smooth hunt, some snow flurries, cold temps up the mountainWe slept in a motel every night & ate at good restaurants too. All a really fun adventure you will enjoy if weather is good !

I'm pretty sure Jerry is talking about area 2.

For area 3 you're probably going to have to get an outfitter. Meade would be a great choice, JJ would do you well too. one of those two is who I would go with.

I am the owner of Lost Creek Outfitters. We do a bunch of sheep hunts and a couple goat hunts each year. I took it over from Griz Turner a year ago. We went 12 for 12 on sheep and 2 for 2 on our goats. I would recommend a outfitter there is not very much you can as a non resident you can hunt. Area 3 population is doing great. That's why they added more tags. It's a great place to hunt goats. In 2016 we killed a great goat there. Last year all our hunters where in unit 1
