Wyoming elk,unit 1,and116 and 117

Is there a good population of elk along the South Dakota border in these units and public access? Thinking on a cow tag for next year..Thanks

The guys I work with that live in that area say there is a health elk population and you can kill elk on public land. That being said they also said a lot of the elk live on the irrigated hay fields and sometimes are hard to find many off of private land also. If your just looking for a cow you do have a chance of getting permission on private. It would be worth a call to the local warden and see if he knows of anyone that would be willing to allow you to hunt on there land.

There are more Elk on public land in unit 1 than 116 or 117. The access is good but the country is steep and rocky. Not high elevation but rough. It would be a fun hunt. Tough draw for bulls. not sure about cows.
