Just wondering if anyone has found some fresh elk sheds this year in Wyoming? I know that elk can't read calendars, but they normally don't start dropping until like the end of march. Then a couple days ago on March 6th, my brother and I were walking through this north side slope, and the snow was about a foot deep and my brother saw a nice six point side. I was that excited because I knew that elk weren't dropping. My brother thought the same, but when we approached the horn, we found out it was brown. The bull had just shed the horn probably only a couple days before, and there was blood by the horn, we my brother followed the bulls tracks for probably 70 yards and found the other side. The bull is about a 340 class bull, but we found his sheds last year and he grossed in the high 350s, so I think he was an old bull coming down in size, thats the only thing I can thing of why he dropped his sheds this early. The funny thing is last year on march 17 my brother and I glassed a big 330 bull and he had both sheds. Sorry I don't have pics to prove this true, but I will post them soon.

That sounds like a good Find. I also found a brown early in the year. It was in SE Wyoming. The weird thing was that it was a raghorn 4 point. Never found the other side or any other elk antlers for that matter. It was March 26th, the Saturday of Spring break at the high school I teach at. I have also watched a very mature 5 point bull in the 1st week of may with both antlers attatched. I guess that is the fun of horn hunting. You never know what you will find. Good Hunting.
