wyoming draw

I was wondering if someone on here would be willing to try and give me a simple explanation as to how the wyoming draw works. Between the info showed on this site and thw game and fish site i'm a litte confused. I'm trying to figure out how many points it would take for a non-resident to draw a general tag for region's G and H. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I thought I just did this but here goes again:

40% of NR tags in each unit are seperated into "Special" tags. If you apply with the Special fee you draw out of this pool of tags. The Special fee is about double the regular fee. 75% of these tags are designated for "Max Points". Example=if the unit has 100 tags, 40 go Special. 30 of the 40 go to Max Point holders.

60% of the tags go to Regular draw. 75% of that 60% go to max point holders. In the above example, 60 tags would go to the regular draw and 45 of those 60 would go to max point holders.

Wyoming does go down the points ladder until all of the 75% "Max Point" tags are gone. Example= if everyone with max points(2 this year) are awarded tags and there are still tags remaining, the next tags would go the next most points. It could be a group of 4, 3 with 2 points, 1 with 1 point=1.75 points.

I love the way Wyoming does this. A buddy with less or no points only reduces your chance of drawing proportionately. In Colorado the entire party has as many points as the party member with the least points.

Hope I didn't confuse. Check out the draw odds for Wyoming on this site. Notice how many points it took to draw a specific unit last year and how many tags went to Special, Max point holders, etc. Thats how I figured out most of this.

Then to top it off I know that at least one antelope area has incorrect odds on it. It showed 47% when I know there were tags left over. I had a buddy draw one of them in the Aug. draw and there were something like 80 left that went into the counter buy stage. ????? Or how many guys with a point did not try last season and are going to dump 2 points on an area this season out of the blue??? I think this will be an interesting year.... just a guess though.

WillyP, i think even F&G can get confused. I know I do memorizing every state's draw system, order of draw, costs, etc. If I had studied this hard 30 some years ago, I'd be doing brain surgery and buying landowner tags. LMAO

The odds you were referring to of 47 percent were most likely correct. 25 percent of the allotted tags in Wyoming go to nonresidents in the first draw. Residents apply for the remaining 75 percent in the second draw. If the residents don't draw all of the remaining tags, then the leftover tags are sold in July in the third draw to anyone.
In fact, approximately 2/3 of Wyoming's buck antelope tags are sold to nonresidents.

I know this year I probably saw the least hunters I have seen out there ever. It wasn't exactly thin but the back end of the unit had room between the tents :)

I spent a few minutes looking at the odd page this morning. It came out that of 156 tags allotted there were 158 first choices drawn and no second or thirds drew a tag. I understand now. I think?? Thank you Wyomingites for leaving a tag for my buddy in the Aug. draw.

The information is not accurate here.

The Non-Resident quota is split between Special Draw, Preference Point Drawing & Regular Draw.

Any licenses left after the Resident Drawing are combined with any remaining Non-Resident tags and are made available to both Non-residents & Residents alike in the second drawing in July. Any licneses leftover after the second drawing are made available through over the counter sales.

There is NO third drawing.

I had meant that there were no second or third choice entrants drawn from what the G&F info showed so from what has been said my buddy needs to thank residents for not putting in for a tag in that area as that was what made one available to him as a non-resident in the Aug. draw. I wish the State's website figured in the under subscribed resident tags some way. Always getting a chance in the Aug draw was what had me thinking it was a 100% area , it in reality sort of is as long as the residents see fit to leave tags for us out of staters. I guess it pays to always check the left over list each year.

That does happen quite often, it's pot luck.

The situation with resident license demand changes yearly.

There are a lot of non-residents who came here for the energy boom work who are now becoming residents. This will be adding to the demand for resident licenses in many areas.

License demand always falls off during the first year of a license fee increase. So there are a lot of things to consider when trying to figure the implied odds for drawing licenses.
