I have been hearing several ramblings lately about a few folks acquiring 102 deer tags through landowners and I was interested in hearing some more about it, if anyone knows who I could talk to or if it is through the G&F, let me know, I have been dying for that tag and I am just looking for some help.

no, I am sure there are landowner tags in WY. I am just wondering if they are or are not transferable to those who do not own land or if they are a voucher type deal

Then explain to me, if you can how a couple prominent families in Rock Springs got both 102 and little mtn. elk when they don't own even one acre in the south coountry.

no, they were planning the trip before the regular draw and are already planning for next years hunts, I don't know about any of you but I don't usually plan any of my trips until I know I have the tag

CCR,
I know who you are talking about and maybe you should get your facts sttraight before you cry on the WWW. They own 160 acres which is enough to get landowner tags.

I know every single person that gets landowner tags down there. And they are all legit.

Also you do not have to own the land to get landowner tags. Thats is a major misconception by everyone. I know several people who get landowner tags that do not own land. They own shares in a grazing allot. and they determine the number of landowner tags by the number of shares.

I like your username though :D

Hey wuz up YH?My wife should draw a moose tag this year and heard you are a pack horse.Im gonna recruit you,HA HA and maybe She'll get 102 deer again for a third year in a row with out land ownership,Damn lucky people.

Your second part is not true. You have to be a family member of the landowner to receive a landowner tag in Wyoming. It has nothing to do with grazing allotments.

Yes you have to be a family member but those family members DO NOT have to own land.

The grazing associations get landower tags and they give them to members (and thier families) that have SHARES in the grazing association. They do not actually own the land. Look it up. Eat it up.

Cluase....i don't even have to look at the username to know who it is hahahahahaa

I'll pack your moose if you pack the beer

YH,

I wouldn't call it crying on the www, I would just call it looking for information, and if I have all my ducks in a row like I think I do, you might be just the guy I was looking for.
Maybe you can help me with some questions I had. Since 102 is limited quota, only so many of those tags are handed out (barring any party tags on the last draw). When larger ranches and grazing allotments are either broken up or incorporated the number of landowner tags goes up, where do these tags come from, do they add or do they take them out of the resident and/or non-resident draw, making it even harder to draw. If you look at how much private land down there could be broken up into 160 acre sections, and add 2 landowner tags to each one of those sections, that would dramatically decrease a residents and/or non-residents chances of drawing.

Ok lets run a senerio.

Say the currant creek ranch sells 160 of its acres to Mr X. That is just enough acres to get landowner tags. Mr X approaches the game and snake and they issue him two elk and two deer tags every year. Your question was where do those tags come from? They come from the general draw. So yes that is two less elk and two less deer tags that the public has a chance to draw.

Last year (07) there were 300 tags given out to the resident draw. The rest of the tags went to non residents and landowners. I think last year there were just shy of 40 deer landowner tags given out but I can't remember exactly how many.

So in theory if the landowners kept selling off 160 acres parcels then they could really affect the draw odds. Likey? No. But still a possibilty.

Also keep in mind that if you do buy 160 acres that doesn't gurantee you will get landowner tags. You might get none, you might just get antelope. Depending on where its at depends on which ones you get.

Also some common myths are you must have livestock to get landowner tags. Also many people think you have to be a resident to get landowner tags. Also not true.

Right now there currently could be a lot more landowner tags issued in units 101 and 102 for deer, 30, 31, 32 and 100 for elk. Luckily for hunters there are a lot of landowners in these units that do not care about hunting and do not apply for landowner tags in these areas.

Hope this helps,

The info helps thank you, how much of the current creek ranch do you think, in your opinion, would not, get both elk and deer tags. Me personally, think any way they split it up every section would get at the least the deer tags and probably the whole lot would get elk tags.

Hey clausepeak, I am going to put in for deer with your wife, I hope you don't mind. and if she gets a moose tag let me know I know a fella that is willing to help with the hunt. later.

Hey muleyhunter,Sure put in with my wife but i'm going to charge ya.Should i change my name to pimphunter,HAHA.I hope that guy is you.Hey when ya going to bring those antlers over from the GHOST BUCK so i can make some repros?

Hey clausepeak, I can't believe you would charge me, I thought we were closer than that. After all I would be the guide so it would be a 50/50 thing. I think pimphunter would be a perfect name for you. get a hold of me I have a picture I think you would love to see. big buck. Repros, I would have to charge you big money for that, unless you want to swap?

YH - I guess I just misunderstood you term of grazing association. It must be a similar to a trust or company on private land. My fault.
