Anyone know what to expect? Is the hunt weather dependent? Is the bowhunt better? I can easily draw this unit next year bow or rifle if I want.

Don't know if 39 has bigger bulls or not. However, 38 has its share of exceptional bulls if you want to put in the time. Check out Elk Mountain Outfitters website if you want to see some large bulls out of 38. One is approx 63". I shot one just over 50" in 2004. Saw one considerably larger in Nov 2003, but couldn't find him the next year. 38 is the best area in the state in my opinion. No wolves, no competion and the elk and deer hunters are more than willing to tell you where they've seen every moose on the mountain...

I beleive he is asking about elk area 38, but the things you say about moose area 38 are very true I hope to draw that tag someday I have 11 points right now.

Don, I hunted that unit in 04 for rifle and harvested a cow. Never saw a bull. Quite a few hunters with deer being open as well. I scouted the area in early september and saw quite a bit of elk, if I were to choose again, I would put in for archery!
