LAST EDITED ON Mar-03-15 AT 09:38AM (MST)[p]About 30 years ago, first day ever in the field, chasing pheasants, fresh out of hunter's safety. Got to a fence, thought about breaking my single shot 20 gauge open and taking the shell out while I crossed, but the dog was "birdie" so I left the shell in when I crossed. Bad mistake. Shot myself in the wrist with a 20 gauge at point blank. Not good!

LAST EDITED ON Mar-03-15 AT 05:38PM (MST)[p]Took a shot to the bridge of the nose from a 10" X 10" chunk of steel while doing a little maintenance on the truck. 12 Stitches and a broken nose later we still made it to the evening hunt. Sorry no pics I'm camera shy with blood all over my face.

A Scull is a boat. Skull is a bone.

Homer:)

It's written in the good Book that we'll never be asked to take more than we can. Sounds like a good plan, so bring it on!

LAST EDITED ON Mar-03-15 AT 11:14PM (MST)[p] Hey Homer I am sure BCB is going to introduce you to a grammar instructor. He don't take lessons from just anybody.
About 30 years ago myself and 3 buddies drove up the Mountain . We were going to hike out and hunt on the way. Then catch a ride back up to the pickup. Some steep rugged terrain. We called it Rocky Basin. We had worked down the Mountain a couple miles. I could hear my buddy screaming! I made it over to him only to find he had a broken knee. It was ugly. Didn't have cell back then we threw a splint on him. And headed out. One friend went back for the truck to go get help and meet us at the bottom. Our friend that went to get help ended up going up the wrong canyon with a rescue crew looking for us. Needless to say they never found us. We finally made it out about 10 pm. Wasn't fun! He got a new knee some years later. Rutnbuck

We were on a back packing/fishing trip early in the year, about June 1st to catch the opener of trout season in the high country. It started to snow so we holed up in a little log cabin. It had a wood stove and we got a good fire going. We were stringing a clothes line to dry out our socks and I tripped. I put my arm out to catch myself and leaned right into the stove pipe. "Sizzle" It got some infection but I toughed it out. I still have the scar.

The ATV accident in Leadore last August. We had a rock shoot out under me and the wife. She was ok but I had a stage three AC separation. I have been working out now since Jan 15. I can shoulder press two dumbells (35 lb each) 3? 10 reps, and I can't believe it's finally quit hurting. I do 3-4 miles on treadmill a day or stair master 60-70 stories. I'm not losing fast as only about 18 lbs so far but I am feeling better.
As soon as I lose another 15 lbs I might jog and begin hiking weekly . 56 years of age isn't my prime but I'm not done for sure.

Back in the 80s I decided to cut a locust tree off at the base with my 22. The tree was only about an inch or a little more diameter at the base so I bent down, put my elbows on my legs just above my knees and with the end of the barrel about 8 inchs from the base, I fired the first shot. Bullet bounced out and smacked me dead center in the forehead. Raised a welt and about knocked me down but no permanent damage. Sorry no pictures.

No pics related to it, but I was riding my mountain bike in the Snowy Range, west of Laramie one spring about 25 years ago, scouting an area for bear. Don't know for sure, but I ended up with a concussion and a face that looked a bit like hamburger. I've vague memories of loading the battered bike and a flash here and there of driving back to town. Called some friends and they came over and took me to the hospital.

Most of the rest were the usual: cuts dressing and boning game, a stab to the knee by a daughter boning an antelope, torn MCL in the timber, etc...

Not in the woods...

This one is the results of carelessness with a log splitter. Crushed it between the log and stop.

This one (same hand) was the result of carelessness in the shop. The finger on the left only required a few stitches. The right one had a small strip of skin and tendons holding it together. The bone was shattered and muscles and vessels torn. Almost lost that one, but a hand specialist grabbed his micro surgery kit, drove 80 miles to our hospital and spent 6 hours putting it back together. Other than lack of mobility in the very tip, it healed fine.

Not in the field but:

When We were in High School we all decided to make a Billy Club on the Wood Lathe!

I Chucked a Cedar 4 X 4!

I tightened the Rest/Bar with a Cheater!

Didn't want it coming Loose!:D

I had not a Clue which Tool to use or what Angle to use it!

Picked one that looked good & kicked the Lathe on!

This Old Lathe was a Big SOB!

I gouged in to the Rough 4X4 & it didn't take long!

SOB grabbed & pulled my Thumb in between the Rest & the Turning 4X4!

Meat & Blood Flying!

I Try to back the lever on the Rest off but I couldn't do it with just one hand after using a Cheater to tighten it!

The 2 kids that were watching me took off running when they seen the Blood & meat off my Thumb flyin!

Only other Option I had was to shut the Lathe off!

Do you know how long it takes a Lathe that big to Slowly quit turning?

Seemed like F'N Eternity!

Meat was gone,Bone was showing when I finally got my thumb out of that SOB!

I learned some Respect for that old Dinosaur Lathe that day!

Boy i been blessed to not get hurt more than the little i have been. Hardly at all.

Back in the 80's i badly scratched my eyeball while ducking under and thru thick scrub hunting for quail. I had to leave for a Ruby Mtn Deer hunt the next day with a patch over one eye. Bothers me to this day.

That's about it. Been Lucky!

Blood trailing a deer I shot right at sunset. Walking through deadfall.
I was walking on top of a 12 in quakie. Well my foot slipped off the log
and from my foot to my knee was pinned in the branches and assorted crap.
I fell sideways towards the stuck knee and pretty much "ski booted" myself over
and popped right back up. They drug me out first then went back and drug the deer. Lots of Mtn Dew medication that night to get to sleep.

Lifting the plywood floor I have in the duck boat out I felt a little pop in my
right elbow. Looked down and saw a big hole where my bicep used to be attached at the elbow and the muscle all rolled up in a ball. Went to the Dr,
they told me to go home and get on with life, surgery wasn't all that successful
and it would pop again. 10 days before the bowhunt. I had some Dew a few night later, let a few pounds off the stick flipper and haven't looked back since.

When I was 14 I was on a backpacking trip with my scout group. We backpacked into Island Lake in the Uintahs. On the 3rd day a huge lightning storm came in quickly and my two best friends were hit by lightning and killed instantly. I was standing about 10 yards from them when they were hit. We did CPR on them both for 30 minutes or so with no luck. That image will be burned into my mind until the day I die. That was almost 25 years ago.
