Wolf Delisting Legislation 2017

Members of the House introduced H.R. 424 on 1-10-2017. This is stand alone legislation to delist the wolf in Wyoming and some other states. Members of the Senate introduced S-164 on 1-17-2017. This, also, is stand alone legislation to delist the wolf in Wyoming and some other states. There seems to be some bipartisan support for both pieces of legislation. Both pieces of legislation have been sent to committee for consideration. This is where most of the past legislation goes to die. Now that the recent election is over, perhaps something will happen

Meanwhile, the appeal of D.C. Federal Judge Amy Berman Jackson's decision to relist the wolf in Wyoming has been submitted and argued and an opinion should be forthcoming in the near future.

I just watched a video of President Trump. Sign Executive Orders for the Keystone pipeline, the North Dakota pipeline and the pipe will be made in the USA. President Trump also signed an executive Order to streamline environmental studies so they do not linger for years. We will see.

It has now been almost 2 1/2 years since Judge Amy Berman Jackson relisted the gray wolf in Wyoming. The DC Circuit Court of Appeals has heard the appeal of this case and a decision is supposed to be forthcoming. They have had it for many months. It is my understanding that the House is waiting for that judicial decision before voting on the proposed delisting legislation that was introduced this year. If you ever wonder why government never gets anything done in a timely fashion, this case is ample proof of that. Perhaps the wolf delisting legislation should be passed now and let the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals hang in the breeze. When I think about these court cases, I am always left with the thought "why in the hell is the federal court system in D.C. even involved in this process?"

Groups that support the federal protections say it's premature to lift them because wolves are still missing from most of their historical range. They?ve been able to persuade the courts that the terms of the Endangered Species Act requires recovery in more than just a few states, even though the Fish and Wildlife Service disagreed. If that's the logic, I guess they want elk returned to the Great Plains (along with grizzlies, bison etc.) In other words, once listed, nothing would ever get de-listed.
