Here is a winter kill bull found this year. Not sure what was the cause of death. We did an autopsy but found nothing. We left it lay but got some good pics. I dont think many people are dumb enough to go where we found it so hopefully it wont get picked up illegally. 6x7.

Is it illegal to possess your find? Do you have to notch a tag from a current hunting license to keep it?

What would make it illegal to pick up? We are allowed to pick up winter kills here, even fresh ones, for sheep, moose, goats a mortality report needs to be filled out within ten days. I believe only in the national park (yellowstone) is it illegal to pick up sheds or kills. Some outlying areas only after may 1st.

They passed a law here in Oregon a couple years back that states you can not remove any horns still attached to the skull without a valid tag punched for it.

THERE IS AN ARTICLE IN THE NEWEST ISSUE OF MULECRAZY MAGAZINE ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE. WHERE AND WHEN YOU CAN PICK UP WINTER KILLS OR LION KILLS WHICH STATES HAVE RULES AND WHAT THEY ARE YOU SHOULD CHECK IT OUT. I WAS SUPRISED TO FIND OUT IT IS ILLEGAL TO POSSESS THEM IN UTAH.

I'd be calling your Fish & Game in Idaho and ask em. Don't know what the fine print says in the Montana regulations but the Montana Fish & Game has VERBALLY told me that I can pick up anything winterkill EXCEPT sheep....they really keep an eye on them sheep....

Cool find, hope you get to take it home.It would make a good "do it yourself" Euro mount. Thanks for sharing the pics.

I think I saw that bull last archery season! We called him in to about 50 yards, but he wouldn't leave the cow's he had and commit himself to come checkout more cow's. I remember seeing that odd tine between the brow and the bez on his right antler. We were hunting southeast of Dayville, Oregon.

Actually it was found on the west side near Estacada, OR. Rumor has it a logger poached it at worked one day.

No, that's definately eastside! Way to many pine needles on the ground for the westside. Hmmm? :)
