Will Idaho add a new species to the draw program?

I am adding a link to the F&G fish survey. In this survey the F&G are thinking about having a draw for a sturgeon to harvest. It will be for the fish planted above Twin Falls. These fish are planted in the river and are not native to this area. With that said I don't support the harvest of these fish. In my mind there will be a draw and that draw will only be about raising money. There will probably be a super tag raffle of some sort.
The fish will pay the price. The more harvest tags that are given out the smaller the fish will be. Until the only fish kept will be 2 to 3 foot dinks. Then will come the day that the guys are chasing the hatchery trucks. Here is the link. Ron

What a terrible idea. Those money-grubbing b-tards. I will comment on this one, and encourage my buddies to do the same.

They put the Sturgen in the river where it was not before. Now they want to catch some of them. What a great Idea! Now if you fish for them and do catch and release I see why you would have a dog in the fight. But remember they were introduced here not native. I think any way they can invent ways to make money and keep the general cost of hunting and fishing down the better.

Not true. They reintroduced the fish where they had been wiped out before.

I dont think sturgeon were ever able to get past Shoshone Falls so they were never native there. If you have ever been there you would understand.I think its a great idea both for fishing and revenue factors.Hope they do it.

Ummm... Yes True. The native range of Sturgeon was the Snake River below Shoshone Falls. They weren't ever wiped out, as they weren't above the falls prior to introduction.

I took the survey, but don't fish that high up on the river so don't particularly care either way. Depending on the number of permits, it certainly has a potential to reduce the size of fish caught, which would be a bummer.

If they had a sturgeon tag, and the harvest also had a slot limit well maybe I would support it, maybe.

If they are only looking for money why don't they put a hydro power plant on the water that dumps over the rim at Niagra springs WMA? It would only run while the canal was going but the North side canal has several power plants on the canal and they obviously make money or they would not do it. In my mind they should look at ways like this than whore out the wildlife. There are so many super tags now I just don't think they are that super any more.

I wonder how the salmon and steelhead fisherman would like to draw on a section of river? If fishing was a draw wow look at the money to be made, OR look at the money that will be lost. Will people apply to draw a catfish permit in Weiser? How about a Bass tag in Milner? A Walleye tag in salmon dam?

The F&G for years has wanted to supply ALL the fish they could from hatchery's. I look at it like welfare for fishermen. If the fishermen think all the fish come from the F&G then it makes them indispensable. Natural recruitment is low on the F&G's priority list for many species. The Magic valley region has NO crappie, It has NO natural recruitment for catfish. Most of the water has little to no natural recruitment for trout. Walleye show little to natural recruitment. Most of the trout that they do plant are triploids. they won't reproduce.
If the F&G quits planting fish this area would have little to offer for fishing. SO we are a bunch of welfare fishermen.

The snake river here in the Magic Valley region is NOTHING what it was 30 years ago. Back then everyone trolled at Bell Rapids. Fishing was very good back then. People came from out of state to fish here and Hunt pheasants.

Now there is an idea. Pheasant draws, Chukar draws, even quail draws. I bet they would raise a lot of money.

It's amazing the energy Fish and Game puts into personally screwing you for a buck. I havn't been over to the fish and game HQ parking lot, must be full of Mercedes.
