Why do you hunt?

Do you hunt to kill the biggest of the species?
Do you hunt for the experience?
Do you hunt for the time spent with friends and family?
Do you hunt for the meat?
Do you really care if you kill something?
Do you hunt because it's an instinct?
Do you feel a little remorse when you kill an animal?
Do you feel a little bad if you eat a tag?
Do you hunt to try & out do the other guy?
Do you think you'll ever quit hunting?

Hmmmm! I'm thinking we all probably will answer the questions the same!

meat,yes..friends/family,yes..experiece, absolutely...quiting only when i die.. deffinately in my blood and on my mind constantly.. driving to work everyday, watching game movement, mental notes going constantly. family vacations geared around areas to potentially hunt or scouting trips of familiar areas.( got to cut down on that):)even watching all kinds of movies,(drama, action, old westerns) paying more attention to the terrain in the back ground, (where at? fun to hunt? what species?) sad to say the wife and i even planned the birth of our first child so that he fit in between fall hunting and spring bear/turkey. and that she wasnt to pregnant not to hunt...she was at 5months belly crawling in the sage to get her first antelope, and bow hunting late november to get her first deer with a bow... then delivering a baby the 7th of jan....i might be passing on my sickness.....

lord knows theres folks out there that are worse than me...work, sleep and a mortgage payment are the only things stopping me from spending even more time out there..wish i could but i'll enjoy the time that i do get and do my best to pass that on.

Do you hunt to kill the biggest of the species? Sure.
Do you hunt for the experience? Yes
Do you hunt for the time spent with friends and family? Yes
Do you hunt for the meat? Sure.
Do you really care if you kill something? No
Do you hunt because it's an instinct? Not sure.
Do you feel a little remorse when you kill an animal? Not sure if remorse is the right word for it, but there is certainly a time where you feel a little bit sad for any critter you put down.
Do you feel a little bad if you eat a tag? No.
Do you hunt "and" try & out do the other guy? Not really, if I can get away from work, get in the hills, see more animals than humans, it is a good day.
Do you think you'll ever quit hunting? No

My reasons have evolved over the years, but currently:

Do you hunt to kill the biggest of the species? In my younger days yes, but in reality today no.

Do you hunt for the experience? Yes

Do you hunt for the time spent with friends and family? No. Fishing and family outings yes, but hunting no.

Do you hunt for the meat? Yes, not because I need it but because I enjoy it.

Do you really care if you kill something? Yes

Do you hunt because it's an instinct? Not sure.

Do you feel a little remorse when you kill an animal? No, if I felt remorse I wouldn't kill it.

Do you feel a little bad if you eat a tag? Yes, a whole lot bad.

Do you hunt to try & out do the other guy? No, I take what nature gives me and am happy with it.

Do you think you'll ever quit hunting? In a perfect world no, but in todays world, yes.

Kindness is the language the blind can see and the deaf can hear. - Mark Twain

I just hunt because money burns holes in my jeans pockets and hunting just happens to be the most expensive "hobby" i've been able to find...that or i'm just straight up addicted to how rewarding and challenging it is to scout and hunt mature muleys with a bow. All the greatest moments in my life have been while hunting. I'm always anticipating the next archery hunt!! 216 days, 9 hours, 30 minutes, and 43 second until the 2009 Utah Archery Deer Hunt.....

(1) Do you hunt to kill the biggest of the species?
Elk- The state I live in: Washington has a dink only restriction unless drawn. I haven't drawn in 12 years.
Deer- 3 point os better, except Western WA but I don't shoot anything smaller than 3 point anyway.
(2) Do you hunt for the experience?
YES-YES-YES I love the woods.
(3) Do you hunt for the time spent with friends and family?
I like it when my son and friends are along, but I go alone if I have to. I've hunted Utah,Idaho and Washington several times by myself
(4) Do you hunt for the meat?
Yes and no, as I said in (2) I like it but don't need it.
(5) Do you really care if you kill something?
Not if I've turned down animals, I care if I'm not seeing them.
(6) Do you hunt because it's an instinct?
I don't know if it's instinct or not. I started going with my Dad when I was six in 1962. Started hunting at 12 in 1966 and havent stopped since. When the season starts getting close: I get more antsy and my neck starts to swell. Is that instict?
(7)Do you feel a little remorse when you kill an animal?
Just joy
(8)Do you feel a little bad if you eat a tag?
Yes
(9)Do you hunt to try & out do the other guy?
I suppose so I always have whether it be hunting, working or whatever.
(10) Do you think you'll ever quit hunting?
I believe if my health ever got bad I'd have my son drop me off at an edge of a clearcut with a lawnchair and a blanket and I'd still hunt. I'm 54 now and pretty good shape. Opening morning for deer this year I hunted with a younger guy (early 30's) and we hunted(hiked)a 13 mile circle gaining 1300 feet elevation.
I hope I'm a few years from that blanket and lawn chair.
Good post,
Tom

I hunt to get away from the every day bullshit. It't a good reason to spend time with family and friends. Throwing horseshoes, riding, taking a break to fish, and a good campfire to name a few. In a couple of years it will be especialy nice to take my son and watch him hunt big game for the first time.

Why do you hunt....Cause I like it, I like it a lot...like a 2 legged PackRat/Raccoon, always bringin' sumthin' home whether I can eat it or not....(eat a tag) WHATS THAT???

Better to live on the roof than share the house with a nagging wife. (GNB: Prov 21.9)

I agree,
Tom

Or better yet:

Better to live out in the desert than with a nagging, complaining wife. (GNB: Prov 21.19)

The King James Version (which is where I got the quote) renders it as such:

"It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman."
