Just Wondering?

Told You I Don't Upgrade Often!

But when I Do it'll be as good as good Gets for the time Being!

I know REDDOG has been shootin that distance & further for a couple years!

I'm sick of all these PISSCUTTER/Chump Shot Stories of less than 1000 Yards!

If We're gonna Shoot Long Range,Let's Shoot Long Range!

The Scope costs as much or more than the Gun!

The Scope Mounts cost as much as an average Gun!

I actually took my old Ruger M77 300 win mag out the other day to a long range. Rang the gong at 1300 yards on my first try.

Course, my scope was maxed out and we had to do some math calculations for hold over.

We sat and shot from 400 to 1000 yards for awhile, couple boxes worth anyhow.

I paid $375 for my gun, topped it with a Vortex 5-15 turret scope for $400. Killed a buck in Wyoming at 638 yards with it. I've been happy with it.

If you want to get into the long range thing though, I'd recommend getting a good gun and scope setup. I've shot the expensive guns too. There's a difference!

I know my effective range Bessy! And it ain't even close to 1000 yards, let alone 2000!

My effective Range has been on the short side of things for several years too!

That sshhitt is about to change!

1000 Ain't nothing anymore in todays World!

I took a Bull Elk 2 years ago at 750+ without a Rangefinder & a JUNK Leupold 3.5X10!

Time to move on with the times!

Maybe after I get it put together the DWR will tell me I can't use it?

There's no way to regulate it.

If I remember, they outlawed poaching awhile back.

Drugs too.

Hell, thousands of years ago they came out with 10 laws for people to abide.

More rules and laws and BS isn't going to change anything.
 
Haven't attempted 2000 yet, so I'm not part of that club. I'll make 2000 my New Years resolution. If your telling us you bought something please do tell!

If you really think about it what could be more ethical? The animals have no idea anyone's around, just happens, no fear no adrenaline, its almost peaceful for them.

Anyway I hear there is a new long range rifle set up starting in Utah, " 1760 LRG Inc " some exciting new technology coming right down the pike, check it out??

Bessy 1.5 miles is over 2500 yards. 1.5 miles is 2640 yards. Yes with the right equipment snipers are making kill shots at a mile in half on man sized targets. We practice out to a mile in a half.

I've shot my 50 that far and further up at the cabin and I always hit something... sometimes I even hit the old Buick I use as a target.

WOW REALLY!!!! If you like hunting go hunt, If you like target practice go to a range. This is not fair chase and after the deer is hit by this size caliber is there anything left that is worth eating? I call "CAMO CLOWN SHOES" on this forum

2000 yards was so yesterday. Try 3000 yards.. Kinda like hunting at a 1000 yards you can talk out loud the animal cant hear ya just no your hunting with a RPG.
 
elkassassin, are you talking shooting at 2000 yards or killing at 2000 yards? I've been shooting at 2000 yards since the 1960's:)

The gun we are shooting at 2500 meters is not a traditional hunting rifle. I guess snippers are carry them in the field. We even have a back pack the rifle fits into. We have not hunted with the gun. But if all the condition are right it would be nice to. It's a EDM arms wind river river in 408 caliber. We also have a barrel set for the same rifle in 50 caliber bmg. Here is a picture of the gun out shooting .

. As you can see its a big gun. My computer is down so I am type with one finger on my phone. Like Bessy said it is weapon and is a blast to shoot. Lucky for us the man that built the gun. Bill Ritchie was building these great rifles right here in St George for a while. Now he has moved to Arizona. Google EDM Arms 408 cheytac and you can learn more about this great rifle. At least more then I can type with my finger. :)

After shooting for about 2 hours Bess, I just cant seem to get the % of hits in the target, that I want to say my effective range has extended. Dang, I went all the way to 60 yards and had 70% of my arrows in the 10" ring... I'll keep practising. I also want to be a Long Range Hunter.

Being ethical is doing the right thing when nobody is watching... Not leaving it out of the story.

60 yards with a bow?? Is that even feasible? Who tries to get that close? No wonder there are not as many pictures/stories on this site anymore you old timers (especially you Bessy) are all falling behind the times.

It's not even sporting if they are not atleast 120 yards with a bow, 400 with muzzy and 1300 with a rifle.

You guys need to catch up with the times

It is only sporting at those ranges if the animal is running. Standing still those ranges increase!

Ah hell. If you can't beat'em join'em. I'm going all in. I am buying all the best new equipment and shooting everything I can past 1000 yards. I won't even be scared of 2000. I'm just going to sling lead at every critter I can. I'll only tell yall about the one shot kills though. While yall are moving in close to kill that buck of a lifetime I am going to be slinging hot lead over all yalls heads and runnin' them off. There won't be a four legged beast left without a hole somewhere in him by the time I get done. The one that finally drops dead from one shot gets my tag if I can find him. Its gonna sound like WWIII.

I'll shoot deer so far away by the time the bullet hits them I will have finally drawn the tag :D
