Who said this?

That’s right,, and now JD Vance is making those words from 1902 a big part of one of his campaign planks.

I think he being an east coaster does not realize the feelings “real” people out west have for “their” public lands.

IMO not a good move politically.

He has been pushing the idea of using Fed land for housing to off set Kamerla’s idea of buying votes with $25,000 dollars of free cash for any Tom Dick or Harry that wants to buy a house.

See the article posted above.

I’m pulling for him big time,, just saying.

You had not yet posted the article when I asked the question. I’m not sure it’s a bad idea, depending upon which lands might be used. Maybe some BLM land somewhere would fit the bill as stated in Wyoming. I don’t know of much BLM near high population areas where it would be needed the most. Absolutely stay away from National Forests. Can the government be trusted to use such land sparingly and judiciously?

Don’t worry, Vance is too smart to piss off the voters in the cities east of the Rockies. He’s got a ton of public land in the east that he can build houses on, where the large populations are now. Same in California.

Every State has thousands of acres of public lands. Think Adirondacks, Great Smokey Mountains, Allegheny National Forest, North Carolina has 2 million acres, South Carolina has 1 million acres, Georgia has nearly 2 million, Missouri 1.5 million, Texas has nearly 3 million, Illinois has near .5 million, Virginia has 3.5 million, Minnesota has 12 million…………

But, first we could building on all of the municipal golf courses……….. before we need to touch anything else. That’s the truth……. if push came to shove. Remembers who is pushing the narrative for more discount housing. A huge percentage of the cost of a new home is the land. The government owns plenty of government own land, they can promise to “give” to the needy, in every State. Don’t assume they give a damn about your golf course if it comes to staying in power.

Think out side the box folks……… not everything us it seems.

I’m ok with some oil and mineral extraction, things we can’t live with out.

Live stock has also worked out pretty well.

Lumpy, what do you think Utah politicians would do if you open that door?

There is not really a housing problem,, there is a regulation problem. Like you said there is plenty of privet property for development.

My wife and I did residential development (track housing) for years. Nobody ever gave us free land to build on.

“Open” public lands are just too precious to play politics with.

They are too precious, in every State, not just the west, so is printing money to buy votes ie; $25,000 down payment that will simply drive the cost of a home up more through misguided inflationary practices. Government will give you this, and that, and some more, then push higher wages to pay for high costs of living by continually pour more and more unearned cash into the hand of non-productive people. Teaching each new generation “the government” will take care of them.

Here is the difference between Republican’t and the Demos…… both sides recognize the problem and the need for a solution. It’s the details of the process about how a problem will be brought to a solution that’s killing the country. Trump and Vance’s way of solving the problem will be through Capitalism, Harris and Waltz’s will be through Socialism. Socialism is the reason we have high inflation, billions of dollars in social programs at home and abroad, lack of funding for emergencies at home, lack funding for border solutions, giving money to swore enemies of the Nation, etc etc

Everybody sees the problems, it’s the solutions to the problems that cause us to be where find ourselves today.

Hell, we don’t need more land for more housing, other counties stack housing 500 feet in the air and house a small city on 5 acres, including a hospital, shopping mall, and a ski resort, all under one roof.

This housing need is pure political bullsh!t trying to scare you away from one party or the other. These are problems previous government administrations have caused………. not the people.
