I am thinking of getting a eastern general tag for archery and was looking at hunting the Owyhee river breaks, or the steens for deer this year. I have rifle hunted the steens about 8 years ago, so I know the general area. I have never hunted the Whitehorse unit. I am looking for a meat buck mostly since I have never connected with the bow. I like to hunt rocks and sage not the trees. I like to glass bed them and then stalk. I can get this part done, just keep missing....Long story. Any thoughts on these or other area's would be great. Thanks in advance.

I'm kinda looking in the same area. last I heard the steens were kinda played out ... not like the old days. I'm sure there are some dandys still but lots of people too.(kinda like the kaibab).trout creek tradtional unless you shoot with wheels.I think I,m going up there this weekend... we will see.

I was in the steens last weekend... pretty slim. hardly any deer around. I didn't even see bighorn...just antelope. all the little roads are gone or closed. and if it goes through private, well then forget it . Blm has done a good job giving them (landowners) great opportunity to land lock thousands of acres. Thanks BLM , and lets not forget bill clinton! I think I've given up on southern oregon (except maybe trout creeks tradional) probably look a little north. good luck though where ever you end up .
