LAST EDITED ON Feb-17-06 AT 08:54AM (MST)[p]What kind of equipment you using?

I'm more of a traditionalist..

Zwicky Delta's for Elk
Eskimo's for deer
I like the cut tip design and the heft of them, split bone instead of being deflected or stopped, and they never malfunction. If I had to pick a replacable blade head it would be a Thunderhead 125.

DeadI,
I'm looking to try some new broadheads too. Been seriously considering the Slick Tricks or the Wac'ems. I've heard and read nothing but good about both!!
Gotta make a decision sooner or later!

I love the MUZZYS 100 Grain. They are killer literally. They fly very true and accurate. I have also used some mechanicals, but I didn't really like them. Good luck in your choice.

Several of us use the First Cut EXP 100's for deer, but we all go to something else for elk. I use the Montec G-5's for elk. All of the choices in the posts are good from what I know.

I have used the Gold Tip Centurions for the last few years with good results. However I am considering trying the new Silver Flames this year, they will have the 100 grain heads ready very soon. They are cut on contact and are nearly bulletproof.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-17-06 AT 09:28PM (MST)[p]Montec G5. Kinda spendy, but worth it. Bullet proof, fly great and very easy to re-sharpen as well.

I use Wensel Woodsmens and they have worked great so far. Did the job on numerous whitetails and one bear so far.

Right now I'd have to say muzzy 100 grains. Best I've found so far. I am thinking of trying wac'ems this year. I've heard lots of good things about them but have yet to make that leap.

i love my thunderhead 100s, they penetrate very well, and they are the best quality for the price in my mind, and replacement blades for them are fairly cheap. ive shot animals through the shoulder twice, once at 50 yards, and once at 30, and both times the arrow penetrated almost up to the fletching.

I like muzzy 3-blade 100's. They punch a big hole and have good penetration. The blades seem to stay sharper than the thunderhead 100's I use to use. I have never had a problem with how they fly either

i never use the same blades twice on a deer, its just asking for something to go wrong, no matter what brand of broadheads

Magnus Stinger 100s have done a real nice job for me and I like the ability to change to sharp blades when hunting. I hate trying to resharpen blades. They shoot just as tight as field tips for me.

I have taken 5 Black Tail buck's over the past eight years and shot every one of them using a 100gr Thunder Head. I have been absolutely impressed with how they perform and hold up. I do like the looks of the new G5 broadhead, I have been tempted to try the G5 but like the old saying goes "if it aint broke, don't fix it". If I was new and was looking for gear I would try the G5, but I really trust and like the Thunder Heads, What ever you choose Good Luck.

DECIDING ON A BRAND AND STILE IS MOSTLY PERSONAL CHOICE JUST MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE THE RIGHT WEIGHT IN ACCORDANCE WITH YOUR ARROW. FRONT OF CENTER BALLANCING IS A KEY ASPECT OF GOOD BRDHD FLIGHT. ALSO TUNE YOUR ARROWS THROUGH SPIN TESTING. I WOULDN'T CHANGE FOR DEER OR ELK, A PROPERLY SET UP BOW, ARROW COMBINATION WILL WORK FOR EITHER.

I was wondering why Muzzy were popular among big game hunters - elk for most people, moose for me. I bought them last year and was really impressed by the way the blades are fixed. It's basically a very sturdy Thunderhead, that I was using before. Hoping to shoot my first moose next fall, and will use a Muzzy 100.

Muzzy 4 blade 125 on my light setup the fly like darts.

Thunderhead 100's.....Shot two elk with them... both went less than 100 yards....held up well, great penetration, fly like a field tip...accurate.

I would highly discourage the use of slick tricks. I had a bad experience with them and will never go back. I have lost all confidence in them.
In short I had them glance of the ribs of the same elk twice from very slight, maybe 5% quartering away shot. That should have never happened.
I'm an experienced bow hunter that has taken numerous deer and elk with a bow. When I purchased my new bow last season I decided to try a new broad head. I had herd some good things about slick tricks and decided to give them a try. While practicing I loved the way they flew but when it came time to make the shot, they failed me horribly.

Hey wapiti, I personally haven't had any issues with them and had clean kills. my shots had been perfactly broadside also. so maybe they aren't so good at quartering shots. sorry about your luck with them. maybe I'll try something else.

Personally, I use Beman ICS Hunter arrows with 100 grain three blade Muzzy broadheads. The only problem I have is that the broadheads shoots consistantly low and to the left compared to field points.

Wac'em Triton 100's they take the work out of broadhead tuning. They shoot great and there isn't a tougher Broadhead out there. Solid Machined Stainless.

We have been using the Steel heads 100's but we are hunting Idaho this year so we are trying the 100 Magnus stingers and one of my boys are going to try the G-5's or slick tricks.

I like Magnus II two blades and Ace Standards. But, that said, this year I will be using Wensel Woodsmans for my muley hunt.

I used to use Thunderheads for years but switched to the Montec G5's. With my setup they hit right where my field tips hit, better than the T-heads did. Last weekend I shot a nice boar with them and the damage was incredible.

Shuttle T-Locks fly like darts and make a devastaing wound channel. So far they are the best thing I've come across. The Wac'em head would have to be a close second.

I have heard nothing but good about the shuttle T's. I just switched to Wac-Ems last year and had great results, super arrow flight and 2 pass throughs with the Wac-Ems.

100 grain Nap Spitfire expandable broadheads w/o the O-Ring, they are Awesome. For a broadhead I like the thunderheads.

Thanks for all the replys so far. I helps me out alot by seeing what has wroked for others.

Just curious but a couple years back there was a broadhead called the coremaxx. Have any of you guys tried these, they used to have a website, but I believe it is down now. It was quite impressive to look at, but I don't know if they are even available now. Just wondering.

I still love my Thunderheads! They've never failed me and I can change the blades and keep shooting.

I shot a buck the was quartering and got a complete pass through. He piled up after 60 yards. I think you need to check your set up. You are probably under spined or are shooting too fast of a bow.

I love rockymountain 125 ironheads or titaniums knock the air out of elk deer and pronghorn so far...

I'm surprised that Wacems are so favorable, I've arrowed 3 pig's with 100gr wacems and the penetration was terrible- mid body about 6 in behind the foreleg and less than 10in of penetration, switched to 125gr stingers and with the same placement got a complete pass thru.

usa:

That's surprising, as I've arrowed large bull elk, numerous wild hogs, deer, and a lot of other critters with the Wac'em and every shot had a complete pass-through. Not sure how much your overall arrow weight is (mine is 440 grains) and/or bow poundage, but a leading edge 2-bladed traditional sytle head (Stingers, Zwickey, etc.) is, in my opinion, the BEST penetrating head on the market. Good luck and have fun.

I like the Wacem 100 Grain head, it is by far the best flying fixed blade head that I have ever shot, it is also very sharp durable and penetrates well.
