I shoot a 07' Browning Illusion with a trophy taker drop away and the Spot Hogg SDP7 sights and I was wondering what you guys set your pins at? I set mine at 20,30,40,50,60,70,80 and have shot 90 a couple times but I personally think that is way to far. Tell me what you guys think.

Spot Hogg SDP7 set at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80. I practice at times out to 100 yards, but would NEVER shoot at an animal at that distance.

How the hell do you remember which pin is which when shooting with 7 pins? I would have to count from the top every time I shot. Too many pins is asking for trouble IMO.

I have a 5 pin Spot Hogg Right On set at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and I pin gap for 70 yards and shoot my bubble for 80 yards. When I have shot 80 yards it takes me a few arrows to get into the hang of it again, then I can group pretty good. Requires a lot of concentration though and there are days I won't even try it based on how I am shooting. Obviously the longer ranges are for target shooting only.

If I am worried about confusing the pins for which yardage I make little tags with the yardage written on them and glue onto the pin inside the pin guard. It worked for my wife.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I love shooting long yardages and shoot a consisten 6 1/2" group at seventy yards. I can hit the kill zome from 80 but would never shoot at a deer that far. I shoot 90 quite a bit and shoot 100 a little bit also and can hit my glendel in the square but again would never shoot that far at an animal. I like shooting longer yardages cuz when I move into 50,40,30 etc. it seems so much earier. Anyways thanks for all the feed back and happy hunting!!!

p.s. any shot the fuse whisker bisquit?

timberline-I have a 2006 Illusion I bought last year and switched to a release for the first time.It is still hard after shooting tabs for soo long.I have problems with my arrow sliding off the rest once in awhile and don't like to have to let off my pull to fix it.I want to get a drop away that also secures the arrow in place until the shot.I was wondering how well that trophy taker rest is and would like any other feedback as to which rest to buy.I am going to have the wife get me one for papas day. Thanks in advance to any advice.

Spothog 7DP Set 20 thru 80. I practice alot at 50 & 60. Hunting antelope in Montana this year so I'm shooting alot out to 80.

nvguy2, I shoot a trophy taker fall away and love it. Once I got it tuned I noticed my groups get tighter and an increase in arrow speed from the whisker bisquit. I also have a few friends that shoot the trophy taker and like it alot so I would personally suggest that. Thanks for the feedback and give me a call when ya wanna go shoot!

I turned my Vulcan up to 70 lbs and without moving anything the pins are set at 25, 36, 48, 60, and 75. I will reset them when I get the time. I started shooting 75 yards and found I was hitting way high, ended up using what was my 60 yard pin. We will see how it plays out.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-07-07 AT 11:33PM (MST)[p]I also shoot a Spott Hogg SDP set from 30-90. Best sight I've ever had as well!! Also love my Trophy Taker!!!

20-60, but never shoot over 50 unless its at a wounded animal. Seen and heard of way too many idiots lose animals on those 60+ shots. Can't control what an animal does after you release that arrow, and stretching it out over 60 just gives 'em that much more time to move.

Pins at 25, 40, 55. Sweet and simple. I think anybody with more than three or four pins are setting themselves up for disaster and may be kidding themselves.

Pins at 20 to 70 with the 60 and 70 just for me at the house. A 50 yd shot would have to be the right conditions in the field, I don't think I could have anything over a 30 or 40 yd shot in the field where I've been elk hunting anyway, with a most likely at 20 to 30 yds. I'd just like to see any legal one up close this year!!!

I have 8 pins and have them set for 20 through 80 and then 100 skipping the 90 and I know where the 90 should be.

I have a slider set from 10 to 87 yards. I used to only have it to 60, then I went to the eagle mountain 3d and missed the 80 yard moose.

So, are you guys w/ pins over 60 using them just for 3D shoots, or would you actually shoot at an animal at that range?
