I want to start getting serious about shed hunting.
Where do you usually find sheds?
When is the prime time to find sheds?
How to tell an area is a good area to find sheds?
Anything else that I should know?

Any information would be great.
Thanks.

I second the glassing part. I find a lot of my sheds from glassing. But I also find a lot of sheds walking right on top of them. That is usually right after I glassed the heck out of the area. So I would say do both. Just spend time out and you will find them.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-11-05 AT 08:11AM (MST)[p]If you get good you will learn how to locate areas that just look "antlery" and you will usually be rewarded.

Then after you are tired and the day is near the end. Drive out so, so, so, slowly while rubber-necking out your window. Road hunt, Road hunt, Road hunt your way out, for sheds. I've had pretty good luck at the days end in this manner. Might seem odd but I've been amazed at how many antlers i've spotted and picked up doing this.

Here in NorthWest Wyoming, the horn hunters are lazy and will only travel like 3-4miles. If you want to find alot you have to put out the effort to find them. Horese if you have them can provide you with fast transportation with little effort, but know the area of terrian would help. Here the bulls like to be in steep meadows, with scattered trees and timber. Always look on the south facing ridges because the north side collects too much snow in the winter, but some bulls with turn up on the north side. ITs all a matter of luck. Good luck to ya.

Pretend like your hunting find a place with a lot of deer and then decide where the bucks are bedding and eating. In my area I always find them on steep hills where they are feeding and on the edge of the brush.
