What happens to sold antlers?

Just curious... what do buyers do with the sheds they purchase? There are "brownies", "whiteys", and grays; some buyers will buy anything and everything; others just want antlers in good condition. Do they sell to taxidermists, antler art crafters, or what? I recently saw a single "brownie" 6-pt. elk antler at a used furniture shop with a price tag of $65. I have also seen elk and deer antler lamps, light fixtures, mantle pieces, etc.

I used to make buttons out of the small type sheds. cut and drill holes in them and sell them.

I think they still grind them up overseas and make tea's and other capsule formulated aphrodisiacs. I would bet with viagra and all of the other pills avaliable now, the market for horn for that purpose may not be as big as it used to be.

Nice stuff, Really like the table.

You really do great work! I just LOVE the pen you made! Something about writing with a pen made out of a deer antler just seems to make it a little easier to be here at work. :)

Thanks Mark!

back in the day the chinese or whoever it was would buy them and grind them up well you know what i mean. but im not sure if they still do that or not

Thanks guys, but I know I'm not the only one who likes to play with antlers. What does everyone else do with theirs?

I live in NC. I was going down the road a few days ago past a flea market and spotted a nice brown 6pt elk shed on a table. I thought out here in the east I could possibly pick that sucker up for around 15-20 bucks. It was one side of what looked like would have been about a 260" bull.

Well I went over to look at the antler and asked the guy there who was as much of a southern redneck as you'll ever encounter if it was for sale. He says, "yeeup, that thar is a piece of elk horn, them thar are rare and I can't get any more, I'll take $80 for it." I just said no thanks and hit the road, I didn't bother to tell him I had picked up several myself while hunting out west.

Antlers_Inc your stuff is really cool! I like it!

i am an antler buyer here in utah county and all the antlers i buy still get shiped to korea for medicine and afradesiacs.

A lot of these bones end up in antler art of some form or other. I still think that's the best way to put to use the Brown Gold.

It's crazy to think of the amount of amazing antlers that have been eaten by other cultures. In and around Jackson Wyoming alot of antlers definately end up as art . I've been in around 1000, million dollar plus homes and almost all have some bone in a chandalier or chair or mount or... Even most of the dumpy houses have some bone layin' around. If you haven't been to the antler auction in Jackson before, you should check it out if your in the area, it's not a huge event but there's alot of bone and some decent prices if your looking to buy.

I have one of Saskman antler calls and the sound (Predator) is unbelievable and the workmanship is awesome.
