I will be flippin sticks this fall at Elk. Going to be my first time hunting elk with a bow and i am looking at bows. I want a good bow thats not junk but I am only going to spend $400.00 for the bow and accesories I will buy after. I think for 400 I can get a pretty nice bow. I need to know what bow would be a goodone. I know what fits and bla bla bla but lets get real its not a big deal with a bow. I was looking at the Martin bow tonight at cabelas for 399.00 It seemed like a good bow but I will keep looking.

The BowTech Tomkat is an awesome "entry level" bow that comes with a sight, rest, quiver, peep, limb, and vibration package for around $550 to $600. I started bow hunting two years ago and this bow has served me well. Shoots great. My hunting budy has a Mathews Switchback and I think my "entry level" BowTech shoots better than his bow. Check out hunterfriend.com if you want to get a package deal and get everything at once. Good luck

Always buy the most expensive bow you can afford and learn how to shoot it. The later part of my statement is more important when it comes to bow hunting.

However you will rarely ever see a Ford Pinto that performs like a mustang.

You will also rarely ever see a cheep bow on the line winning at Vegas if you want quality you have to pay for it.

For a cheep bow with quality I like the Mission bows from Mathews they are around your price range.

Archery is not my first rodeo, I have done it before and I can shoot a cheap bow just as good as i can an expensive bow. Proved that in high school with my friends. Shoot it enough and you get good with it. I am just looking for a decent bow to see if I can kill an elk with. I would without a doubt love to own a Mathews but being a single dad with a hoe for an ex its not going to happen for a couple years.

You can also go on archery talk and find someone wanting to sell there used race ready bow for the price you are looking for. good luck

LAST EDITED ON Jan-24-08 AT 11:24PM (MST)[p]Muzz I have a Martin Bengal you can buy for 200.00 its a great bow you will have to put all the accesories on it but it would be a great bow to start with.. its a couple of years old .. my yongest son used it and now upgraded to a Bowtech Tribute. The Martin has been a great bow he killed two deer with it.

Muzz, I have a Hoyt Bow set up you can have for around 400.00. Contact me and i'll let you know what it is set up with.

Hey Muzz, I have a Hoyt bow set up looking to get around $400.00 for it. Great bow comes with Spot Hogg sight, Ripcord Rest, Hoyt Quiver and Stablizer.

Oh like this is going to help. I know how you shoot. That is why we call you bam bam shi!. If a rifle don't work for you what makes you think a bow will. You might try gernades or a leg hold trap.
