went to a spot that looked great on the map. there was alot of elk sign but basically no deer sign. within the first half hour i found a nice 3 point. first freshie of the year!
looked there for 3 hours and nothing else. my buddy and i went to some other spots but didnt walk cause it is still a litle early. well we were stopped on a road wathing some bucks that i have been kepping tabs on. 2 of them were halfrack and at least one was completly shed out. i was glassing the field they were in to see if i could spot a shed and i couldnt see anything. after 10 or 15 minutes we got back in the car and were about to leave when i looked in the field on the otherside of the road and somehting caught my eye. the binos confermed a shed, tines down, 80 yards away. it was maybe 50 yards from the road and in plain sight. we went to the landowners house to get permission(we actually got permission first but it was soooo hard not to make a run for it).i went to the house and you could see the antler plain as day 200 yards out with the naked eye from his front porch!!! well the guy came to the door and i just asked for permission to shed hunt. i didnt want him to know that i had one spotted. he almost said yes but then he said they dont let ppl on the land. just before he closed the door in my face i said. "sir.. to be honest with u i can see one from the road". luckily he said i could go get it.
once i got out there i almost crapped my pants. fearing the landowner would take it if he saw how big it was i took 2 quick shots and got the hell out of there. as i tried to calmly walk back to the truck with it i counted 8 points and started shaking. threw it in the back and got out of there. my buddy and i were screaming and high fiving the whole way back home.
it has a 4 inch browtine
23 inch main beam
almost a 2 inch point on the base
scores 87.5!!!!!
am i wrong to consider it a 200 incher?
my best freshie by far!!!!!
o yea, 8 scoreable, and 1 that is broke off that was probably a litle over an inch
